Hi all,

I did a lot of googling and found nothing so hopefully someone on this forum can help me out. I have a JetFlash TS16GJFV60 USB device and it was working perfectly without any problems up until last week when a friend plugged it into his computer. Every time I plug it into a computer or laptop now it gives me the “This device can perform faster” error even thought it is connected to a USB 2.0 port and then I get a read speed of about 800kB/s (32mB/s originally) and a write speed of about 500kB/s (8mB/s originally). Other USB 2.0 devices, when plugged into exactly the same port, works without a problem and I’ve even tried it on 5 different systems running Windows XP SP2, SP3 and Vista Business (no SP) but to no avail.

Please help, in all my years working in the IT industry I haven’t yet come across a scenario like this.

Not sure if you've done this already, but have you tried formatting the flash stick?

Well, to be honest with you, no I haven't. I personally don't think the file system on the device has anything to do with the connection between the device and the computer. Secondly, at that speed it's going to take me about 12 hours to copy all of the data over to the computer, total madness.

If I really have to then I'll do it over the weekend.

autorun.ini...is there something like that on the drive.Check hidden folders. You must format it again under fat32.

Nopes, no hidden or protected system files on the drive. At the moment it has a FAT32 file system but when I format I'll be converting it to NTFS. The reason for that is because FAT32 only supports a maximum file size of 4GB which is a problem as I regularly work with files bigger than that.

I've also dropped Transcend an email regarding my problem, hopefully they will have a solution.

K, "This device can perform faster"

I had problems when driver is not install or corrupted....

try to install an usb 2 driver again.... First uninstall the old driver form devices.

Try plugging it in the back of the PC in question - the front ports are normally USB 1.1 (generally) and the back are USB 2.0

Or... make sure the front panel USB ports are connected properly (they normaly go via cables etc)

If I had this problem on a single computer then that would have been my first action but I've tried the USB flash drive in 5 different computers. To further prove that it isn't a computer related problem I tested another USB 2.0 flash drive in exactly the same USB port and it works perfectly.

Bottom line, the problem resides with the USB flash drive itself. I'll start copying all my data over tonight and then format it, will post the results.

K, I Deleted my usb files......
Now I get this Error

When I click on error I get this

Please read my previous post.

It's exactly the same error that I'm getting... on 5 completely different computers with 3 different operating systems.

:D

Now you need to install drivers.... What make/model is your motherboard?

Hold on man, I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. I tested this USB flash drive on 5 DIFFERENT computers running 3 DIFFERENT operating systems and I have absolutely NO problem with other USB 2.0 flash drives.

Please don't understand me wrong, I'm not trying to be rude, merely trying to help you understand my dilemma. :)

We had problems with larger memory sticks at customers performing slowly, copying lots of small files (which we expected) and large files.

However, I got the same (this device can perform faster) error message on my 1gig stick two days before it packed up. Perhaps you should make a backup :-)

yap I understand but some USB flash drive uses usbl.sys and usb2.sys..
One of these files are deleted, corrupted or never install...
Remember all flash drive has also bios and uses different driver files.

Possible Issues with solutions

1 - When you format a flash drive , One of the two sys files are install on Flash
and flash bios read sys from flash.

So try to format Flash

2 - Flash drive reads from Computer the .sys... so Install drivers as I said again

3 - Some flash uses Lock feature program, password programs and therefore theres a disk supplied - so Install the program/driver from disk and config/repair flash

Yes I think you're right, the low data transfer speed and the drive only running in USB 1.1 mode might very well be signs of the device failing. I will start tonight with the dreadfully long 12 hour copy process.

When mine finally snuffed it, it got VERY hot and fried the USB port too. Luckily it was not my machine. Good luck!

Ok but I have another flash drive that is exactly the same (even bought them the same day) and that one is working perfectly on all of the computers.

If formating the drive doesn't work then I don't know what will... :(

Yap can also be failing...
I don't really store data on Flash drives/ external hardrives because its gets corrupted and slower day after day..

i only use flash drive to transfer data from my friends Pc to mine.
