Hi all

I was not really sure where this topic should go but I put it here since I am trying to troubleshoot my 8ta dongle. Ok so here is the issue:

When I insert the dongle into the USB slot windows does not detect it not even as a mass storage unit. The greed LED does flash periodically so it does have power. It just randomly stopped working on its own (as well as firefox and a samsung galaxy S3 mini smartphone refuses to connect).

Here is what Ive done thus far:

I have tested the USB ports on the laptop and they seems to work with a memory stick and so on, its just the 8ta dongle and the S3 mini that dont work. Firefox was reinstalled and is working fine. So I suspected there might be something wrong with the USB drivers. I opened up device manager and under the USB menu I tried to uninstall the drivers in an attempt to allow windows to reinstall the drivers on upon rebooting. The drivers refuse to uninstall. The haluwei drivers (there are 2 of them some BUS controller and something else) have yellow triangle exclamation points and windows is giving a code 39 error. According to my google search a code 39 error implies a damaged/corrupted driver. I then proceeded to delete the haluwei registry keys as the instructions on tomshardware.com said to do. Still no effect.

Im completely stumped now, can anyone assist me in fixing this issue please.

EDIT:

I should mention I am troubleshooting as system administrator and the dongle is detected in other computers

ok so its not a dongle issue.

Im thinking busted Mobo.

Possibly busted motherboard!

Highly doubt it - OP will have to troubleshoot! I had a conflict on my system but managed to resolve it.

OP are you using a PC or laptop ? If laptop/pc branded under a vendor - please go to the vendors website and download the latest drivers for your mobo/usb etc.

Hopefully this can resolve it if not you will have to troubleshoot until you come right sorting it out.

Ok so I was able to find a similar post on microsoft's support forum. Needless to say it did not work. I managed to reinstall the drivers using msconfig, the yellow exclamation mark is now gone but the device is still not working.

Im using the dongle on a HP laptop its fairly old

EDIT:

it cant be broken motherboard or faulty ports because its only the cellphone and dongle that dont work.

Tried uninstalling Mobile Partner?
Remove dongle, uninstall MP, reboot, replug in dongle & see if it will install again by itself.

If no luck there try a differant USB port

If flash drives work but not phone and modem maybe it's a power issue. I've had laptops that don't deliver enough power to host a device.

Other than that, it's drivers, force remove devices/driver and software related to modem. The mobile partner software should run from your modem, but most ISP's provide them or the manufactures website.

How do you normally connect,if not Mobile Partner is it via HiLink, browser based connect/disconnect?
What modem is it? LTE one or 3G only

@Tun@: It doesn't matter, as device is not recognised.

it cant be broken motherboard or faulty ports because its only the cellphone and dongle that dont work.
It can be broken motherboard. There is device called Polyswitch (resetable fuse) to protect USB port from overloading. If faulty it will trip at lower current levels than specified. As both not working devices take lot of current (much more than memory stick), it suggest faulty polyswitch.

Try connect devices through self powered USB hub and see whether it helps.

its a old 3G usb dongle ... normally i just plug it in and the device boots up the 8ta software to connect.

Will try a self powered hub but I do not have one. Is there no way I can test the usb port for power issues with software ?

The 8ta software will be the Mobile Partner i was speaking of.
Give this a try & see if you have any luck.
Unplug the dongle
Use Revo uninstaller to uninstall the 8ta software _ http://www.revouninstaller.com/index.html
Reboot ,plug the dongle back in & see if it detects & installs the software from the dongle again - if it does you should be good.
If it doesn't see if you can see a setup file on the dongle & run that.
If you can't see anything try a differant USB port.

lol ive gone backwards now ... now all usb devices except memory sticks do not work. That includes mice, keyboards etc. Windows detects it tries to install a driver then it says driver failed to install. All the devices have power, cellphones charge, mice come on etc

now what?
