Hi, i am having a problem with my CD/DVD rom where the disc is loaded but it just stopps spinning, this is a laptop/external usb drive. I am not sure if it is supposed to spin slowly like in a idle mode? Thing is windows is not showing a disc loaded. I have tried different desktops and different cds and dvds, it is really weird. Movie / Music cd, nothing works I have especially opened up the dvd writer to have a look what is happening when i load a disc. I can see the load light flicker/blink and then i can see the red laser light blink and move up and down when the cd starts spinning, but then the laser light goes stops blinking and the disc stops spinning and comes to a halt.
Previously only DVD movies and Music cd;s were working, i had not data disc to test, but CD-RW were not being "ready"
CDR was being placed in a "ready" state, and i was able to burn an ISO or Data or Audio, but for the love of me, the disc was not readable after.
I tried to re-burn the disc, and guess what , it was as if it was not written to, i dont know what the heck is going on here
Ive Nero to Imgburn to CDBurnerXP to Deepburn.
I did try to clean the lense and even the entire dvd writer but using electronic contact cleaner, which i believe should be safe, but since then no disc are loading / being made ready

Have you tried different USB cables?

I assume is uses a USB Mini B connector?

Hi , yes it is a USB Mini B connector.... what the older external hard drives used to use, am i correct?

Side question - the external USB hard drives of today use Micro USB 3 B connectors or is it just referenced as A or just USB 3 connectors.

Anyways ill try another cable for the CDRom and see what happens- the model is DS-8A5S46C
It would not make sense to me how electronic cleaner can damage the drive...
I have sprayed this in my Graphics cards to clean them, like lots of spray...
They still work fine, my old and new graphics card.

Just buy a new one for R250... problem solved.

I wish i could, but they over 1 grand here where i stay now, its bloody ridiculous.

More expensive in Asia? Wow, I never though they would be.
It is , its crazy, appliances and some pc parts.
In some cases 1.2 or 1.5 or even 2x ,im not kidding.
Dont ask me why, they say its import taxes , i just think its an excuse and their prices are fixed.
Some stuff, yes cheaper, but definitely on a broader scale much cheaper in SA - i dont understand why

My one uses 2 USB ports for extra power as 1 is not enough to spin the DVD writer up

What are you trying to do?

You're the first person to post about CD/DVD drives in like 10 years on here. Nobody uses that kak anymore for a reason.
