I have three variations of USB Modems and cannot get one of them to work on Windows 10.

1) ZTE K3570-Z (Vodacom)
2) ZTE ML190 (Cell C)
3) Dlink DWM-156 (Telkom)

Any ideas how to get over this hurdle. I have tried as many tricks I could without any success. Windows 10 will not see any of the 3 USB Modems.

Until the manufacturers of USB Modems update their Windows 10 drivers we will continue to suffer the incompatibility problems. Vodacom Data Support will confirm this. The solution is to replace the modem with a Mobile Router.

There is no solution so far. It will have to come from Microsoft.
A 3 weeks ago tested Huawei E367 with a fresh Windows 10 32-bit installation. Downloaded the latest dasboard firmware compatible with Windows 10. It appeared to be working initially, but recognition problems were coming repeatedly. A week ago this person reverted to Windows 7 for this reason.

Try Windows 7?

Use the equivalent Vista driver via "I have the disk". Or 8.1/8/7...whatever is latest.

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't work.

Just make sure you pick x86/x64 right.

Do you really believe that MAC is going to give you less compatibility problems you cant be serious.
This is not about "compability problems". Modem RAS interface in Windows 10 is the only one with default "metered connection" attribute. Considering the recent trend in releasing unfinished software, shifting a burden of testing of such prelease versions to the consumer and forcing automatic updates which costs users their money, it is expected that modem interface is not on the Microsoft's priority list. I would even say, that such instability was introduced deliberately to force people using a different Internet access method which has a "metered connection" attribute disabled by default or even better - the interface which cannot be set as a "metered connection" at all - by example LAN adapter.

In the above scenario Microsoft can speak loudly about having a "metered connection", but in practice it doesn't change anything, as such interface is unusable.

Well Im replying to this thread running Windows 10 connected via a very old Huawei E220 USB modem supplied by Vodacom but on a MTN Sim with Afrihost data contract so I can categorically state that you can get it working . even though this USB modem drivers were discontinued at Windows XP

Solution : Win10 incorrectly identifies the USB modem as a USB Mass storage device, when in fact it is a USB composite device. Open device manager and plug the modem in, you will see a mass storage device detected under universal serial bus controllers, right click it, select update driver software, select browse my computer, then at the bottom select let me pick... , unselect show compatible devices, then scroll to standard usb host controller and in the model select usb composite device.

Sorted - now see in device manager under modems if its there.!! In my case the vodacom mobile connect lite wouldnt allow me to dial as I had a mtn sim in it so i downloaded the huawei mobile partner app, put in the correct apn for afrihost and bobs your uncle.

Your welcome - SteveC ResolveITS Cape Town

I had some new D-Link DWM-157 in stock and these didn't work with Windows 10 or OS X (being a Mac owner has no advantages) :D

Any way, there are firmware upgrades for both the DWM-157 and DWM-156 modems.

You can get the DWM-156 update here: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwm-156-3-75-hsupa-usb-adapter

You will however, * cough * need a Windows 7 machine to install it on the device!!

You may also need to set up a manual connection profile (APN) after the upgrade...

Alternatively you can also use D-Link local FTP.
Direct LINK to DWM-156 Windows 10 drivers. TK for Telkom and ME for Retail.

It is true however that it is required to do the upgrade on a pre-Windows 10 machine.

This is a link I got from the Tech Manager at Dlink South Africa, and it works.

You can download the DWM-156 drivers and firmware for Windows 10 from the link below.

How do I get the E3276 (non Hi-Link version) to work in Windows 10. The Hi-Link one works in Windows 10 but the other one with the Mobile Partner software connects but not properly since you can't access the internet.
