Hi All

Got a Dell Vostro A860 notebook with two USB ports however I require two serial ports.....bought one USB2SERIAL cable from Sonic Informed and it works 100% however when I use the Mecer USB2SERIAL it install OK but won't run my applications.....any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It could be a driver issue. These USB converters use different bridge devices from different manufacturers which may require different Virtual Comm Port drivers, thus it works fine on the one but not the other.

Using both converters from the same manufacturer (Sonic Informed) would be best.

Thanks Kayvee.....at the moment they out of stock.

Enjoy your day.

I was under the impression that most of the USB to serial converters are based on the Prolific PL-2303 chip. Maybe you could try to install the Mecer USB2Serial using the iSonic software?

This local company claims to sell the cheapest USB2Serial cables (they might also be able to offer advice) ...

This Nokia CA-42 data cable might also be suitable (check the review on installation problems for ideas)

Not only...
There are the FTDI series, the Cypress CP210x series, and recently released Exar XR21V141x family.

But the el cheapo's probably do all use the eastern chip. They would do that before design in an US or European alternative.

Hi guys
You have always to to look that you have the correct USB driver for your USB hardware and OS.
FTDI series - many drivers are wrong written in the past without correct identyfying their USB hardware, so it counts up your USB entries.
There are also differents between W2000/XP/Vista/7....Thats a problem with old software.
In measurement jobs with old RS232 / USB interfaces it is always a problem to update the PCs and OSsystem.

My tip look to solutions from W&T:
RS232/RS485/RS422 converter to USB
or Com-Server
RS232/RS485/RS422 converter to Ethernet

Its a safe, a fast way to connect your hardware to a new system stable!

W&T serial interfaces

W&T Com Server

Ask the guys from 4TMC.co.za for information, they are specialists in measurement tools and W&T interface tools in SA.

Mecer USB to Serial driver

Hi everyone. If anyone was able to locate a Mecer USB to serial driver, could you forward me the link or driver to [email protected]

I've been trying for two days. Searched through the Mecer archives, but incredibly "un user friendly".

Need to transfer new firmware to my NAD amp.

Thnx, Keith

Yeah just use any drivers from another manufacturer as long as it has the same USB chipset it should work fine, so the trick is to identify the chipset.
