Hi,

My company notebook does not allow me to install the default software, but the administrator allows me to install just the driver to get the E220 modem to work.

Does anyone know how to do it? I am using Win XP Pro. I know that someone using Ubuntu is able to do that.

I have emailed to Huawei company, and got the following reply, but i don't understand.

"Dear Madam/Sir, Thank you for enjoying our product.the drivers is included in software ,you could manually install the driver under the device manager ,then creat a dial connection to connect to internat with E220,but you should ask your operator about the settings of the dial connection. Best Regards"

Anyone who knows, please help.

Thanks and regards

Check that your E220 is running tehe latest version of VMC. You can get it from vodacom.co.za.

If you plug the E220 in, it should run the VMC application directly without the need to install in.

Have you tried this?

No, I did not try this. However, when I plug it in, it start prompting to install the software, and I have to click cancel.

I'm speaking under correction, but with v3, you can just run the software from the modem without the need to install.

@Iam3G, Sean is not allowed to install non-company software on his laptop.

You can? I'm running version 3 and i had to install

I think he is allowed, his notebook(and the company policies loaded) prevent him to do it(i think).

I had a similar case last week. It was a company laptop, and the guy couldnt install the software. I had to log in as Admin on his laptop, installed the software, and funny enough when we logged into his account again it work.

I cannot install, as I do not have the administrator right to my company's notebook. however, my colleague is will to help me install just the driver to make the modem work, not the software.

BTW, I found 2 downloadable files VMC Lite 3.2.1.156 and VMCLite_E220_3_2_1_156_standard, which should I use? How should I use them? Sorry for asking so many question as this is still very new to me.

If you can get the Drivers installed, then you should be able to create a manual Dial-Up connection and connect with that.

Hi vodacom3g, need your enlightenment. :)

What do you mean by "with v3, you can just run the software from the modem without the need to install."

Do you mean that I have to copy the v3 software into the modem, and everytime I will have to run the v3 program from the modem's memory?

And at the vodacom website, I saw 2 softwares, VMC Lite 3.2.1.156 and
VMCLite_E220_3_2_1_156_standard. Can I know which version I should use?

Thanks a lot.

I need to check this again, but after I upgraded my modem to V3, I noticed every time I plug it in, it asks if it should run the software on the mounted CD drive. I could then run it directly without installing it.

The 'standard' version is the normal one that loads onto the flash, while the one without the 'standard' suffix is just the PC installation files.

Hi vodacom3g, can I know how you upgrade your modem to V3?

I tried to replace the files in the VMC Lite 3.2.1.156 into the modem drive, but it does not allow me to do that.

The only other way you'll be able to do it is if you do a Manual Dial-up Connection.
