Use electricity sparingly, asks Eskom

We have cut out what we could.

They should rather focus more on illegal usage and slap hefty fines on such people.

But ya, the cANCer is too widespread for such action... :(

Go to squatter camps and it will be evident where the illegal usage is. They will need to send in the army to escort technicians to do the disconnections. And a day later the connections will be up again. Fines won't help...those people have nothing.

Sadly, the way prices are increasing I am going to be forced to use electricity more sparingly. Which is a bloody pain, most people don't waste power for the hell of it. It's in use for a reason. And one can only cut back so much!

Industry and mining consume over 60% of the electricity produced in the country, and the inclusion of commerce takes this figure to almost 75%. Therefore, residential energy use makes up a far smaller portion of final energy demand than in other countries, and demand from poor households is even smaller. Only 16-18% of South Africa’s electricity is used by residential consumers
Eskom, you are chasing the wrong consumers - go after the 80% first.
