OHMYGOSH, people! Stop all of this fake-smiley-things while insulting each other! It's so childish! You have differing opinions - get over it. Trying to persuade each other by insulting each other is hardly going to help.

As for my personal OPINION, I think COPE is just the ANC in different clothing. HOWEVER, I also think that is has breathed some new life into the elections. Every single election year, it's just been like 'oh well...here we go again. ANC win...everyone else...back to the drawing board.'. It has been overly predictable. I think this will motivate the other parties to really go all out in the next elections...

Maybe I'm just being hopeful...

Why does COPE suddenly want everything to change?
They were all in positions of power in the ANC and had the ability to change things, so why didn't they?
What on earth makes them think people will believe they're going to make it happen now when they've had 14 years to do it and have just fscked it up?
It simply doesn't work like that. If you're part of a political party you have to dance to the policies of that party. They could not have changed anything outside the policies that govern the ANC. That is why they split in the first place.

You can try and maneuver inside the boundaries that are set by the greater organization, but the best you can hope for is to perform well in that context.

This is kind of like asking why the clerks don't change the way a company does business. The answer is simple, they don't create the policies, they only operate in the framework thereof.

Also, I can't understand how anybody that actually reads what COPE says can realistically say they are the same as the ANC. They are not. Their policies are completely different. They are a much more grounded and much less militant party than the ANC and because of that they appeal to voters of all ethnic groups. Voting for anybody but the ANC is fine by me, but if you want your voice heard you might as well vote for the bigger opposition party.

What makes them think South Africans living abroad actually care?

They are just the ANC in new clothing with a new name. Thats all. What better way to make sure you stay in power than becoming your own competition?

My word how astute! Reminds me rather of Telkom/Neotel....*shudders....

Expats care...they probably still have family and friends here. Why do prisoners have more voting rights than law abiding SA citizens abroad?

A friend of mine would like to join COPE; anyone know where she can register to become a member in Pretoria?

While on this topic, can anyone tell me what does AMANDLA mean?

These guys implemented the laws and now want to reach out to the very people they alienated?
I guess this is one time where I agree with you. I don't understand the logic behind people jumping behind this party, these are the very clowns who have rode the gravy train all these years and did sweet nothing to deliver on their promises. Now they've formed a new party making the same promises, and people who previously hated the ANC are suddenly backing them. The mind boggles

We support COPE because it takes power away from Zuma and Malema.

Still don't see the logic behind the hypocrisy. Who would you have voted for prior to the COPE being formed? Rather vote for that party because by voting just to spite Zuma, you're actually taking power away from who you would have voted for - people that may actually have made a bigger difference.

I know that you are saying, but unfortunately the masses will never vote for the DA. If the masses do not have an alternative they will vote for Zuma/Malema. Giving the masses an alternative is a good thing.

So would you like COPE to fail and the ANC to have absolute power?

no, COPE wont fail, and its existence is good seeing that it will balance out the democratic situation, but that alone wont let me vote COPE
