I am a software developer (when i have time), and i cannot express my frustration with other DEV's that is absolutely useless and incompetent.

My wife works closely with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA). This is a government institution, and recent regulations requires that you MUST log specific learner information on their system.

Yes, it is a pain. cause there is NO API so even though my wife has an application to manage users, all this info now needs to be re-captured on their system, and let me tell you, this is no joke.

Ignoring the fact that they force you to duplicate your work (managing learnier info is already a full-time job) there are other issues with the TETA system that makes me so pissed off.

The TETA's documentation boasts that they use "The Latest technology" for their website. I will quote a few lines from their help documentation:

There are a lot of Internet browsers on the market today, but all of them have their own set of capabilities. In short, all of them have their Do’s and Don’ts. With the SETA system, you may and can only use Internet Explorer. Other browsers do not support the Template in which this system is programmed on. Making it difficult to use this system and it often sends the user off frustrated and unable to get the correct responses from it.

Other Browsers on the market are there to use in general but does not support SMS.

Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Operah. AVOID THESE BROWSERS AT ALL TIMES. SOME OF THEM WHEN INSTALLED, CHANGES LOCAL SYSTEM SETTINGS ON YOUR COMPUTER

It becomes your responsibility should you be using any other browser along with this system.

Internet Explorer 10 was recently release by Microsoft. This browser is the flagship of their technology and we are grateful that they keep to times as they are changing.

Popup blockers have two ways of working, it either makes your life easier or it turns it upside down. Plain and simple. Some webpages have adhoc scripting on them which fires up a Popup that either has some unsolicited content of some sort. 90% of the time crude and unsuitable in any given situation. However, sometimes we need a Popup blocker to be disabled. SMS relies on this setting to be disabled as this system is data intensive, and often needs confirmation of data entered or a search list with results displayed. Whatever the case me be, it needs to be disabled for SMS

Should you have any other Toolbars or Add-ons in Internet Explorer that blocks Pop-ups then it is suggested that you consult your IT department or if you feel brave enough, to uninstall those add-ons from Programs & Features in Control Panel

Now let me respond to the above comments.

  1. IE10 is NOT the flagship
  2. IE10 was release in 2012
  3. IE11 was released in 2013
  4. EDGE was released in 2015 - I will forgive you for this one, it is fairly new.
  5. It is not the browser that doesn't support the system, it is the DEV's responsibility to make sure that the app works with ANY browser
  6. You do not need popups in a system. Maybe you do, but not the kind that gets blocked
  7. How dare you warn users against other browsers?
  8. My toolbars has jack to do with your app
  9. My PC updates regularly, if IE upgrades, then it is YOUR dev's responsibility to make sure the application is updated
  10. Forcing me not to update is putting my company at risk, are you going to compensate me if anything goes wrong?
  11. ... oh... and if you use MAC, well, sorry, you are screwed... go buy a windows PC

I would have loved to post some screenshots on how horrible the system looks. My 15yr old does a better job at designing interfaces than *** does.

This is regulated, and if you do not load your data on the system, then you will lose your accreditation.

In summary

  1. We are forced to use their system
  2. We are not allowed to do updates
  3. They are saying that other browser are inferior to IE
  4. If you use MAC, buy a windows PC

All of this, due to a bunch of IDIOTS calling themselves developers.

c'mon, grow a set of balls, get some backbone, lift your arse and start doing your job.

It would be nice to get a response from TETA. How can they force you to do something on their system, and in the same instance, not give you the option to do so on MAC, as well as making your network vulnerable?

- Removed dev companies name.... seems to be derailing the topic

So your wife has to do some work on a government system and you as a part time Developer are frustrated with the said system?

Nope, my wife does not do work for government, she volunteers at a learning institution (not government).

No, i am not a part time developer.

Somehow everyone is missing the point here.

I am complaining about developers not doing their job properly, and in the process, making it the responsibility of the end-user. All while it is forced upon you by government.

Yes, it is complaining, but damn all of you that feels one should just let it slide. It says quite a bit about your work ethic

Oh okay. Your wife has to work on this government system (log information). But you are frustrated. I suppose you are trying to help her?

And you are not a part time developer, you are a software developer when you have time?

Where does Deloitte come into this? And how sure are you that they are responsible for some of the items you quoted?

Regarding work ethic - its the government - take it from where it comes. The only government entity with great work ethic is the one which takes your money.

Yeah, i get the sarcasm.

**** proudly displays their name at the bottom of the system.

I don't think you're explaining yourself properly. Which is fine as I'm sure you're not first language English.

I completely agree with you.

Had similar experiences for years now also because "Oh we don't support Mac, you must run Windows" and then I'm like but your Application is BROWSER based not OS based so why in ****'s name can't you make it work?

Or better still when it's a Java app that should run on anything, but gets wrapped in some retarded way that makes it impossible.

Also - I am willing to bet all the issues you are bitching and moaning about have nothing to do with the developers directly.

You will likely find that the developers were told what tech they will target and what they will support.

Also - do you have any idea when the system was written and released into production? It could very well be that at the time of writing IE10 was the bee's knees.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Since it is for government we should all be concerned. If Deloitte are hiring self-taught lazy devs then that's important for us too.

No reputable dev will write for one browser.

They might say using Safari might not be optimal, sure.
