Useless Telkom Technicians

Posting here gets a great response.

\o/ YAY! \o/ That's good news, a light at the end of the tunnel. So I'm gonna try it here as well.

/me knocks at the microphone: Hello, hello? This thing on?

Was upgraded to 10 MB, got a realistic 8 MB, life was great, everything just wonderful. The connection seemed to be like almost worth its expensive price. Then suddenly, mid October, speed goes down. Particularly the upload tests with 0.43 MB all around. Local test: 0.43. Europe test: 0.43. USA test: 0.43. If you're an online gamer you know how deadly a low upload speed is.
Been thru the 0800-375 375 hell back and forth, had a whole collection of techies at my house (need to buy an album soon, where I can glue the guys in), no-one could really help. At least they all got to the same conclusion: the problem is not on my side but a network problem at the exchange. Seems in our suburb they have like 20something odd Dslams but only 1 of them has high speed capacities. And that Dslam is totaly overcrowded and therefor causes lots of probs. Now one techie told me the money for upgrading is there, readily budgeted and available. Only the managers refuse to spend it. Techies are angry as well, cause they have to go out and face angry customers each day, buffering between customer and management.

So here's my quest..., uh no, my demand: Telkom, it can't be that in one of the fastest growing urban areas of SA (Cape Town/Bloubergrandt) we only have one (1) dslam (Table View-9) up to the job. Install more, newer, better hardware! And do it soon! By the time 10MB really works throughout most areas, the rest of the world will be on 1000000 MB speed. Don't sit on your high monopoly horse and *** on our heads! You spend lots of money for fancy office buildings and TV ads, now spend some money to finally be able to deliver the promised WORLD CLASS NETWORK!!! And please, for (fill in deity of your choice) sake, don't let me hassle with any unclued Unhelp Center Agents anymore! They just close the case so the next operator can claim I've never complained before.
Maybe let some guys from your billing department run the network, these guys are ultra reliabe, like clockwork really.

Hello hello??? Anyone listening?
Thanks for your kindly faked attention

Stefan, the not so friendly german anymore

\o/ My line appears to be finally fixed. Had some great help from a tech who worked for 3+ hours trying to track down my fault. Eventually he replaced the pair going into my flat. Now I'm back up and running , 4Meg happy and stable :D I just hope it stays fixed but things are definately looking good. There is hope out there people! Posting here gets a great response.

Hi Kosmik, not finished yet, still working on your line, although it looks good on your side, your service will be disrupted intermittently on Thursday 25/11/2010, Wednesday must've been disruptive because of testing exchange interfaces. Group CEO and Execs are very interested in solution, especially after your complaint was "stuck" in fault reporting system.

Hi Herman, PM your tele no. no promises but I need a report number. will reply with findings for you to report, and I will escalate to a buddy in CT to help you. he is a specialist, and if he cannot solve - no one would.

We got a few telkom tech who works for us. The most don't want to work, apparently the contractors to the job and telkom tech just sign off.
Fault finding is out.

We in Eastern Region KZN do not use contractors. Some Techs just don't listen or follow basics with fault finding. PM me complaints with tel, will follow up with investigation and feedback.

Hey Dosti,

Thanx for all the help, just a quick question. With the line specs and stability I've got now, will it be able to handle 10 meg whenever the exchange gets upgraded? Do you have an idea by any chance when the dbn suburbs are going to get? I believe cbd has as well as obviously the staduim. I'm not really chasing it as the main reason I'd like it ( IPTV ) is not really around yet.

Sir
I totally agree with you they cant solve my 3g wireless phone problems for 2weeks plus .prior to this for 4 months everything was perfect. No service TELKOM PLEASE WAKE UP.

Cool, your CT buddy contacted me, he has even spoken to the techie already and wants to escalate my case to someone "higher up". Kinda happy now ;)
