Using 8ta data card with Lenova S10-2 Atom Laptop

My wife's Lenova laptop has a built in 3G modem from Ericsson, but it is very slow. I on the other hand have an 8ta 21.6MB modem and when both of us are connected I get a respectable 4-9 MB download speed at home and have on occasion topped 14MB, whilst my wife's connection keeps dropping and downloads are < 100k. I cannot get the 8ta software to recognize the Ericsson card, and must connect via the connections of Windows 7. Surely the 8ta card should be compatible and I should get at least 1-3.6 MB download speeds.

I get a full 5 bar signal as well, and the Lenova laptop seldom shows more than 2 bars, and this in the same room. I have the latest drivers loaded from Lenova for Windows 7 32 bit, and have just checked again if there are any updates.

Anyone with suggestions would be most appreciated.

Have you tried your wife's laptop with your SIM card? Have you experienced the same problem with your SIM card in her laptop? If possible - does this happen with any other network as well?

Socond thought: Check if modem is properly installed on the laptop. I mean not OS drivers, but physical. On the boottom there is compartment with modem mini PCIex card. It can be separate antenna connector on the card. It migh be antenna plug lose or not plugged in at all. It is why signal is low.
