Hi Guys,

I recently signed up for a Telkom Phone line at home, then I registered for 20Meg VDSL with Axxes and set out and bought a VDSL Router. But this morning Axxess emailed me to say that Telkom do not support VDSL at the exchange near me so i have to downgrade to 10Meg ADSL. Now i'm sitting with a new NetGear VDSL router and want to find out if there are any guides/Threads that can help me setup the VDSL router backwards for ADSL as they say its Backwards Compatible? not sure what that means but is there any special config that i need to do to get it working for ADSL?

Dont want to return the router and get an ADSL only router incase the Exchange starts to support VDSL then i can upgrade it later on.

Please Let me know,

Kind regards,
Pablo

I've never heard of a Netgear VDSL modem. Which model is it?

They are usually 100% compatible with ADSL.

All VDSL routers should be compatible with ADSL, and should automatically detect the line type being used.
Alternatively, you should be able to configure it in the connection settings when setting it up.

The new AC1600 Modem Router provides a built-in fast VDSL modem for broadband that is also compatible with ADSL2+ connections.

OK, there we have it - released last month already ....

You just need to put in new settings.

Yup, This is the one... Bought it at the Telkom Shop in Clearwater mall.

Thanks A_G, Will try the settings this evening when i get home and hope for the best.

I hope you are not connecting to the Panorama Exchange with your shiny, new ADSL line. The whole area west from Christiaan de Wet and south of Beyers Naude (Strubens, Little Falls, Radiokop, Wilgeheuwel, Honeydew Ridge), and Weltevreden Park, suffers from horrible exchange congestion at Panorama.

The CEO of BitCo Wireless will be able to retire soon thanks to all the signups in the area.

Hey Icbxx, I think i am in that zone hey lol. The telkom tech that connected the line said the exchange was by Clearwater water so it very well could be.

Yup, that's Panorama.

Here's the congestion reference: 67ARK241014. And the related threads:

Damn, well that sucks... I'm definately in that mix man....

Telkom, what a joke
Ask your Telkom Tech about this - he might be inclined to make a plan for you since you are a new client in a storm of cancellations.
