Using an inverter as a UPS

Realistically I don't believe that is the risk here (fire). I think my mayor concerns at this point are safety. And you pointed out a good safety concern. Namely that someone can get shocked if they remove the DB panel. Now I want to fix that :)

Agree, appreciate the comments, just don't want to have an argument about it, I would rather understand the regulations and make it complaint. Doesn't help me trying to do a COC if I know it'll fail.

-sigh- Again, in your opinion there may be nothing wrong with driving 80Kmh in a 60Kmh zone. The fact of the matter is it is still illegal. Rules and Regulations are there for a reason, I don't think the intention is for them to be open to opinion, especially not from someone that doesn't even hold a basic Wireman's License (BTW - that alone makes you fiddling in a DB, illegal).

Anyways, moving on....

I don't have much faith in the electricians in this country tbh. Personally my flat had a L+N EL before (single phase) and half the plugs weren't on the EL (due to some plugs being on another phase). Yummy electrocution hazard. And I bought this place recently, so it got a COC like that. Don't believe a COC is worth the paper it is written on.

Just my 2c.

Ok so my plan to make my installation complaint is to
A) Bring SABS certified solid core power cable into DB (Already actually have plenty of this cable)
B) Add a light to DB to show if there is power from another source (Not sure where to get this, will have to check out Voltex)
C) Hardwire to inverter (depends if it is center tap transformer)
D) Mark DB as having power from external source

C may require another Inverter.

Just wanted to share that I found this discussion very helpful and useful personally, despite the minor quibbling.

I've been looking at options for doing something similar to what @Gnome has proposed here, and this thread has been very relevant and helpful to me.

Thanks to both of you @savage and @Gnome for sharing your thoughts :)
