Hi - does anyone know if one can use the B315 LTE router from Telkom for Fibre since it has a WAN port?

Not sure if it will work - does anyone know?

Fibre network access is different to the DSL. You will probably have to register MAC address of your router with service provider. Ask them for details, but yes, B315s is capable.

Not if it's openserve, didn't have to do anything on my ADSL, fibre capable, router to move over to my fibre.

there is fibre media converter, you can use b315 wan port connected to converter ethernet port/Rj45port.

So, quick update on this should anyone be keen to know. I had to (re)order my fibre 3 times as the 1st two times the address kept saying no Fibre infrastructure. Our complex had Fibre live, but the map was not updated. Long story short, they installed and I used the login details on the LTE router and at first it did not work. I then removed the sim card (kept it out and just stuck it to the back of the router with tape - not to loose it) and then rebooted the LTE router and it came back on, on the PPPoE setting, and its working perfectly!

So, if you have an existing B315 LTE router from Telkom and you are upgrading to Fibre on OpenServe keep the router, it will keep working if you plug the ethernet cable coming from the Fibre box into the WAN port at the back of the B315 LTE router (provided you've taken the sim out) and you use PPPoE with your Fibre ISP details.

Did not need to register MAC address (I am on OpenServe) - worked when I changed to PPPoE and entered my ISP details

Did not need Fibre converter - ran ethernet cable from Fibre box to B315 LTE routers' WAN port and it worked from there (had to take sim card out of B315 LTE router though)

All depends on fibre switches equipment they currently use. They initially accept connection to any router, but they log your MAC address for security reason. You can swap one or two routers during testing period (30 days or so). If you change routers later, you may need to tell them or change the router's MAC address, just remember that.

Great - thanks for the heads up!

Question:

Can you setup SIM as failover if fibre line goes down?

Hmmm - had a look, cannot seem to find that option. I suspect its custom Telkom Software on the Telkom B315 LTE router. Somone I know said he’s got the same router but with Cell C fibre and he’s got an LTE sim in there for failover - sounds like it was set up by Cell C that way as part of their fibre offer?

B315s from Cell C has no automatic failover. You will have to unplug Ethernet cable and cycle power on the router. Not that I have tried, but it sound to me.

So I've been trying this - to no avail. It shows an error saying "network cable disconnected, Connect it to your router WAN port" which is a problem because I have it connected to the WAN port

Error message indicate that router expect DHCP WAN connection which is default for B315s. It will work with Vumatel. You can change to PPoE, etc. in the settings .

Thank you. I have changed the connection mode to PPPoE but still the same issue :(
Do you use proper PPPoE login and password?
On the Huawei info page should report acquired WAN address.
It is difficult to say anything, as you supply very litle information.
