I have been thinking of getting a Samsung A30 or something like that. No need for top of the range.
 
Yea I cannot see myself using this on the permanent either but agree as a temporary solution when my main phone is out of commission, sure thing. I kike Xiaomi in general. And
 
no mention of whether Wikus has been picked up by the CCP for waterboarding after using one of their spy devices?

been using a Nokia C1 for over a month now, very similar experience sans the waterboarding

biggest frustration is the camera struggles A LOT with reflective surfaces, can't take a legible pic of a passport for KYC verification for example, and QR codes off a PC screen are also a big challenge

and the very limited RAM means Truecaller is useless, it rarely fires up fast enough to identify an incoming call before the phone stops ringing ... Uber is also very heavy on resources judging by how much slower it is on the C1 compared to any other apps I use

at only R1199 though it's a decent device
 
These phones' performance deteriorates so fast. Try it again after 3 months of use. They continously freeze. The battery is good though.

Like any other app. It will suffer when stuff is open. So when you've just switch it on Truecaller will be snappy. On for a couple of days though, different story.

@45Female had the same issue after a few months, turned out she interfered with it while it was doing a firmware upgrade
All sorted now
 
Well, back then when I had my Redmi 5, (2017 to 2018) it was like R2K on Gearbest with flash sale.
Was fast enough for Google Maps, and such. Did not play videogames on this thing. Camera was OK, not the best.
FP scanner was fast, 64GB of storage with 4GB of RAM. Plenty. (Dual sim too!)
Capacitive touch were acting up, so hopped on GB, bought a OnePlus 6T. Best purchase ever.

Unlocking this Redmi 5's bootloader took some time, but at least I can flash other ROMs and stuff on it.
 
2GB of Ram will be the limiting factor in the phones longevity

Best bang for buck is probably just over R2000 where you can get 4 GB of RAM.

Personally, I sprung R5500 for the redmi note 10 pro with the Mi band bundle.
 
Wish they kept they kept the Type C port on the 9C however, as the 8A has a Type C prot for the same money.

I looked at this one recently but didn't know the brand. Seemed good on paper.
