Hey guys,

A friend has asked me to broadcast her wedding over the internet to her family in the USA.

So I came across this site...

http://www.ustream.tv/

It allows you to live stream / broadcast events to people over the internet.

Here is an example of a funeral that was recently broadcast....

http://www.apexbaptist.org/templates/System/details.asp?id=41488&PID=778514

We already have the webcam/camcorder all set up at the church ( the one the church normally uses) and we just plan to log in and stream the event. we are going to run some tests this Saturday. The church has a 4 mbps ADSL line and I have uncapped internet. Obviously the upload portion will only be running at 512.

Does anyone have a better idea for a live broadcast? Any tips? any of you ever done this before? It looks like a great site and can be used for families who are spread across continents. Could be a great tool to include families in your lives from far away.

Don't know of a better idea, but i DO know EnGadget [the tech magazine/site] uses UStream in their podcasts/webcasts. It does seem to work quite well , since it allows "live feedback" too [from the viewers] . You'd see the Engadget guys talk about some gadget and sometimes they ask a question and then the audience can respond "live" via ustream, which is quite nifty.

So even though you intend to broadcast, always worth considering some two way interaction there too.

you can take a look at livestream.com as well. They pretty much do the same thing. Procaster(the app livestream uses to stream) is quite nifty too with regards to video quality

No to slightly derail, but you can also download an application called Qik (Blackberry, iphone, android, s60) and stream directly off your phone.
