hey!
well, i have been using utorrent for awhile now and i am always looking for new ways to download just a bit faster...
this is what boosted my speed about 200KB/s
first we need to download "tcpip.sys connection limit patch", i don't now if theres one for windows xp sp3, but-
here's one for windows sp 2:
http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497
here's one for windows vista:
http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2744
(According to Microsoft, Vista SP2 completely removes the limit of 2-25 half-open TCP connections that existed in previous versions for application compatability reasons. We're not aware of any documentation introducing new registry keys to change the TCP half-open connection limit. If this works as intended, there should be no need to patch tcpip.sys, and users should no longer see Event ID 4226.)
1) after you have patched your max half open connections, restart your computer.
2) then start utorrent, open options > preferences.
3) then on the right on the new dialog choose general.install ipv6/teredo.
4) next on the right choose bandwidth and change:
maximum upload rate 7.
maximum download rate 0.
global maximum number of connections 1000.
maximum number of connected peers per torrent 750.
number of upload slots 10 and
check the use additional upload slots if upload speed <90%
5) next go to queueing and change:
maximum number of active torrents (upload or download) 9 (or whatever you want)
maximum number of active downloads 8 (or whatever you want)
now seed while options....
Ratio <= 0 % or seeding time ignore
uncheck seeding task have higher priority than downloading task
Now when utorrent reaches seeding goal:
check limit upload rate to 0
6) then choose advanced on the right and look for "net.max_halfopen" click on it, and at the bottom type in 1000 and press set.
7) this step is "may" increase your speed a bit more, in advanced look for "net.bind_ip" and type your internet connection ip in there. this tip has been given to windows vista users, but i didn't see any changes in download speeds.
press ok and restart utorrent.
also...
look for torrents with a more seed than leech ratio, and preferably more than 10 to a larger number of seeds.
mmm... thats about it, if you guys can give more ways in optimizing utorrent for downloads, that will be great!!
