The Vaal Dam was almost 100% full‚ said Department of Water Affairs spokesman Sputnik Ratau. http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2017/02/26/Water-relief-for-Gauteng-as-restrictions-to-be-eased

"This morning the Vaal dam was at 97.89% and more sluice gates have been opened. They will remain open for at least the next two days" he said.

Ratau said the lifting of the water restrictons would be gazetted on Monday with immediate effect.

"This will outline what restrictions in Gauteng are being lifted."

Sluice gates have been open since Friday at Bloemhof Dam in the North West.

However‚ "we are still in a drought"‚ said Ratau.

Will COJ reverse the punitive tariffs now?

We do not have enough dams, not enough regular rainfall and use too much water.By next year - we're probably going to be in the same situation if we keep on like we do.

We are unfortunately in the same situation as most countries now... Not enough water in the right places for the population.... The problem.is we don't have the political willpower to do the right thing and solve the problem properly

Which exactly are this "most countries" you talk about? How many dams did South Africa build in the last 25 years? Keep in mind - the population in SA has doubled over this period. Most of SA's dams were build by the "previous" government. Those dams were never meant to supply soooo many people! South Africa is not so dry a country as you think. I agree - the people in charge are the problem. They have no clue how to manage things. #AffirmativeAction #Racism #RacialQuota

Doubled in 25 years? What bull****!

1991 36 million
2017 about 55m

So not quite doubled. Still a serious increase with zero new dams...

I was not talking in absolute terms. I just wanted to highlight the issue. The ANC defenders will attack in full force. Just ignore him.

We don't have proper planning. The only plans being made is how the cronies can get rich out of this artificial 'scarcity'.

Good to hear a lot of the Eastern Cape and Western Cape and large parts of the Northern Cape (which is by far the largest province) has overflowing dams...

The entire article is about the Vaal dam and the restrictions in Gauteng. I was commenting on such.

Far from doubled and yes not enough new dams but quite a few dams commissioned in the 90s/2000s

Pretty certain water usage would have doubled, much more of the population has access to running water.
