Valve Steam Deck

I've got a, decent gaming PC, Xbox Series X and an Ally. The Ally gets the most use, yes initially the setup is a bit finicky but once that is done it's a for away. Plus being windows you can literally use every PC application on it, dock it and use it as a PC as well.
Though I would replace the ssd with a 1tb immediately as the 512gb is tiny.
Where can you get an S for R5999? As my son dropped his One X the other day and it might need replacing

I got a Steam Deck oled, PS5 and a beefy gaming PC, and my Steam Deck sees the most use by far.

What's great is how easy it is to eat it is to play for 5 min. You can put it to sleep at any point, like with a console, and then resume. It's starts up fastet from sleep than my TV.
If you have 5 min waiting for your wife, you can resume your rdr2 hunt or whatever you were doing.

It's good for playing in bed as well while your wife reads.

If I was single, it would probably see less use, and i don't like playing big spectacle games like the above mentioned rdr2 on it. I feel those deserve the big screen experience.

It is a backlog killer of note because you get so much more play time than with traditional systems.

If i played fifa. I think it would be perfect for the deck. I don't think there are small elements on screen, or places where enemies are hard to see like in rdr2 that would make it less ideal.

ROG Ally is windows bases thus doesn't have the great sleep functionality, which means it's disqualified in opinion.

I wouldn't bother if I mainly used gamepass, but if you only really play Fifa, do you really need gamepass?

Thanks. Fifa or EA FC will only work with Windows so I'll need to put that on the deck and from the youtube vids I've seen it is possible. Also I believe putting Windows on it will open up the Steam library which can be limited with steam os as to which games will and won't play. I only have gamepass because of my xbox

My plan was/is to get the 64gb deck, buy a 1tb ssd, install windows (as seen on youtube) though I'm sure not as simple as they make it seem, but having been the type to always install Linux on my previous Windows machines, I doubt it will be too complicated. I do want to use it docked to play on tv, not strictly but I do want to utilise that option.

I think the R5999 was an error on Incredible Connection's website because the entire offering and product has disappeared
Series S 1tb is however on special for R7999 https://www.incredible.co.za/xbox-series-s-1tb-extra-controller

Weighing in on this. I've owned all three of your options you have. The Steam Deck was wonderful as a console experience. I had no problems with it at all. I did end up selling it though because I didn't need the portable factor anymore.

The ROG Ally was interesting, loved tinkering with this device, installed all sorts stuff and had a positive experience overall. The battery life wasn't as good as the deck, but once again, wasn't too far away from a wall point or the WINX power bank. Ended up selling this this eventually because I wasnt using it as much as I thought I'd be.

The Series S - what can i say, you just install the game and it works every single time without hiccups. You can beat this experience, steam deck matches it, but you wont find anything that beats it for the price

Steam Deck OLED is getting a new color

Valve announced its Steam Deck back in 2021 and followed it up with an OLED version last year. So far, all of the Deck models have been exclusively available in black, but Valve will soon offer its handheld in a new white color.

Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White will launch worldwide on November 18 at 3PM PT (11PM GMT). It will be available in a single 1TB trim for $679 - $30 more than the regular 1TB Steam Deck OLED.

The upcoming Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White features a white polycarbonate shell with grey buttons and triggers, as well as an orange-accented power button. You’ll also get a color-matched exclusive white carrying case and white microfiber cleaning cloth.

Valve has announced a price increase of more than 40% - or nearly ÂŁ200 - for its two Steam Deck models, citing "rising memory and storage costs".

The 512GB tier of its OLED handheld gaming PC - the newer model with an upgraded display – will now cost $789 (£649, €779), an increase of 43% or £170. The larger 1TB model will cost $949 (£779, €919), an increase of 46% or £210.

Madness, I paid €569 for 512gb OLED in December, plus they threw in a free game due to the shipping delay I had. These new prices are nuts.

I also don't know why we are crying since the product is basically drop shipped in our country.

We are crying:

1. since the product is basically drop shipped in our country

2. before the price increase we were expected to pay around R15,000 - this will likely increase to be closer to R20,000
3. Profit???

That is just heartbreaking. I do wish, that someday, that Valve will officially sell in South Africa. The price would still be too far for some to reach, but at least we would have their support.

Pricing of electronic goods has become stupidly expensive for us. Yet, the chain, and government, find methods for us to pay more... It is draining.
