So we just upgraded to 20 mbps, and we currently have a Netgear N750 Router (DGND4000).
What speed can this router handle?

Do I have to go and buy a VDSL modem?
And where is the best place to get them?

Just make sure they do offer VDSL and not just 20Mbps ADSL2+, which they sometimes do, and what requirements do you have, do you just need the modem part and you will use a separate router or do you want a all in one solution?

What does your router stats say? are you on ADSL 2+? or VDSL? Me as an example is on 20mbps ADSL2+ but dont have VDSL yet

Upgraded to VDSL, bought the VDSL modem, line upgraded and only got ADSL2+. Total waste of money

Location: Goedemoed, I believe on the Durbanville Exchange

What is your speed and stability on the ADSL2+ line?

When I upgraded to a 20MB line I just continued using my old ADSL router because Telkom puts you on 20mbps adsl by default,as long as your router supports adsl2+ then there is no need to change it.I get about 17mbps download and 1mbps upload like this.

If you want the slightly faster upload speeds of vdsl then get a vdsl router and call telkom and tell them to change your service to vdsl on their equipment.

It wasn't worth the effort to me so I just stuck with ADSL 20mbps.

And this is my WebAfrica Connection... Do I need to ask them to upgrade that to 20 mbps for me as well?

ditto, ive also just left it now on adsl 2+, because i dont for see any movement on them upgrading me to a MSAN

If you are on uncapped you obviously need a uncapped account to match your line speed, you can keep your modem and stay on ADSL if you like or if they have confirmed you can buy a new modem and get VDSL, 20Mbps VDSL is about 350kB/s faster download than ADSL and double the upload speed.

I had 20Mbps ADSL forever before I decided to switch to VDSL and I'm much happier with the VDSL, my SNR went up from the bare minimum of 6dB to over 30dB and everything just feels snappier, that must be due to the lower overheads.

No, capped 600Gb account.

You shouldn't have had to do anything, it should work at your line speed, just call them and tell them you upgraded to 20Mbps and your account won't go higher than 10Mbps.

Maybe just to be sure also ask whoever your line is with to do a port reset.

How's the ping times and what router are you using exactly?

I've since moved house and I'm now further from the exchange,I now only get 13mbps,do you think VDSL will improve on that as I've heard that it's more sensitive to distance changes.I used to get full speeds when I was 600m from the exchange but I'm now 1,5km away.
