VDSL available after Telkom downtime!

Okay confirming I'm currently syncing at 15Mbps/1Mbps (ADSL2+). Phoned Telkom now and asked them to check why I'm not at full VDSL 20Mbps/2Mbps (as was confirmed by technician before ordering) and was told that the order still needs to be completed.

Don't know if that is just their standard reply because why would they up me to 15Mbps then? The woman confirmed that the order is definitely for 20Mbps VDSL though so I'm still hopeful.

Speeds not too shabby already though :D

Anybody with working knowledge about the technology know if they have to physically change you over to different ports when switching from ADSL to VDSL or is it all just configured remotely?

What are the costs involved if you dont mind me asking?

All costs remain the same except your ADSL line rental. Prices are as follows for ADSL portion (no data):

Up to 4/10Mbps
R425

Up to 20Mbps
R540

Up to 40Mbps
R795

Can't say with authority but I imagine they have to physically change your connection from the DSLAM in the exchange to the DSLAM in the SDC.

I see a lot of the Uniweb profiles I viewed today are now back to 10Mbps max capable.. Wtf... Some of the guys lines do still show 40Mbps capable though so not everyone was downgraded again. Its interesting. Our office upgrade was done successfully.

Here is my stats now which showed up to 20Mbps till yesterday. I am currently syncing at 10Mbps and can get about 8.2Mbps down on Speedtest

DSL Availability for 011463XXXX
Assignable Ports 5% There are assignable ports. Port Availability can not be guaranteed at time of order entry due to order entry volumes.
Restrictive Resources No There are no special resource restrictions. Self-Install option possible.
Fibre Restrictions No There are no fibre restrictions.
Exchange DSL Support Yes The exchange supports DSL.
Broadband Friendly Ready The network in your area is broadband friendly.
Possible Product Offering 4096 kbps The network in your area supports a possible speed of up to 4096 kbps.
Maximum Speed Supported 10240 kbps

Telkom please stop messing with us and come up with the damn precious already! The popularity of this thread proves how bandwidth hungry everybody in this country is.

Is mine still showing 40Meg? I know you did upgrade request. Still nothing on my side though.

Hang in there dude, my town is getting it (touches wood everywhere) 1st half of next year and we are hardly what you call a rich suburb. :)

Superspeed is awesome for doing what he has done (aswell as everyone) so big +1 to all of you. Keep us posted. Maybe get this thread stickied?

I hope so,

I'd be pretty happy with a rock solid 10mbps. Every evening my line dies a painful death until 6am ...
