I am officially in love with VDSL.

I am using a Pace router. Yes, I know people say they are rubbish, but I haven't had any issues @ all. The only thing lacking is some form of access scheduling & additional Wi-Fi configurability, but other than that, it is great & I am loving the gigabit ethernet connectivity.

ISP is Web Africa - Capped - 600 GB (200GB anytime + 400GB from midnight – 6am)

I downloaded a 15Mb App from the Google Play store last night @ 17h30 in under 10 seconds.

The only other thing was that Telkom messed up the install & took two weeks to get me from 10Mb ADSL onto 20Mb VDSL. Ran for a week on ADSL 2+ before they realised something was wrong. Oh & also cut the line off for 24 hours directly after ordering :(
 
Same issues when upgrading, seems to be a standard issue with Telkom.

But, yes, VDSL working well.
 
I never had those issues when I upgraded to VDSL.

Although I have other line issues :(
 
Mine took about 3 weeks to get the upgrade done... i was stuck on 2mbps and it was so frustrating... but once you have it installed its worth the wait.

I'm using Afrihost and Vox but Im going to only use Vox from November.
Data rolls over on Vox and I'm tired of Afrihost and their constant issues on MTN. My streaming is always low quality.
I also dont use midnight - 6am data so the IS based capped accounts don't offer me any advantage because I will never use that extra data.
 
my only vex is that it seems my line max is somewhere around 30-35Mbps due to my distance :mad:

i was seriously impressed how quickly they ramped from 4meg to 40meg. probably all in about 6 months.
 
I'm predominantly with AH, their recent issues have been rectified and I have had no issues for a while now, getting 2.3mb/s on my 20mb VDSL line (right now). I also have a vox account though as I bought a Zyxel modem and it came with 40GB from them, it runs great although for me their data is too expensive. My AH p2p speeds are better than Vox. I'd give AH a shot, their support is great and you can cancel within the month, but it depends on your location as well as they have yet to upgrade the South IPC. I'm in the north.

Hey guys, I'm hopefully getting 40mb VDSL in December.. can anyone tell me how TCP/IP overheads affect the line, compared to ADSL?

(For examplem, with ADSL if you sync at 10mbit you get roughly 8.6mbit)

Not too sure on the overheads but check my sig for a 40Mbps speed test.

All depends what ISP you are going with as well. Afrihost is having massive issues at the moment. I might be leaving for Web Africa soon.
