Vehicle Insurance help

lol ok i will be more friendly.

STOP BEING AN IDJIT :p

pls get insurance already, it really makes no difference if you generally only do short trips etc, it is called an accident for a reason!

comprehensive insurance on your car really will not cost a lot, but at least 3rd party.

What will you do if you drive into a R800k merc tomorrow?
What will you do if you write off your car and now dont have a car to drive around in and no insurance payout for at least a deposit?

I will pm you the details of a broker in KZN.

What ^^ said. Don't be an ejit! An absolute, absolute minimum is third party only insurance. Like said, all it takes is a momentary lapse in concentration and you are in debt up to your ears for life.

Do not think that because you have no money the insurance company will leave you alone. You will sign an acknowledgment of debt and you'll be paying them long tom. Seen it first hand often.

loooool @ hippo

Do yourself a favour, see a broker. Unless you read policy wording and understand it well and can negotiate your claim with the insurer, going direct is not wise.

you want to insure a car the same age as yourself. i would not advise you to get insurance with that piece of *****.
I drive a '99 Audi A3 and i don't have insurance. I don't drive like a maniac. rather put the money into a savings account when you will need it.

Until you crash into a Porsche and end up paying for it for the rest of your life. Bye bye house...

Poorest advice I ever saw. You clearly haven't a clue how the real world works.

like when you have to pay to repair someone's R500,000.00 bmw!

only an idiot will drive into a 500k car

Right here's an example of how you could be that "idiot" you allude to.

You change lanes and just once forget to check the lane/blind spot. You move over into the lane and cause a bus, truck, bakkie or car take evasive action, or you actually shove the vehicle into another lane or off the road.

The other vehicle, bus or truck takes out another vehicle or leaves the road and ploughs into a car park off the road or cars parked on side of road or ploughs through a building. Use your imagination. What if it was a fuel or chemical tanker and it overturns. Liquids escape and requires a major clean up of sewers or rivers or ... use your imagination.

You caused the "accident". Inadvertent. Of course. You never meant for it to happen. Fact is that you are the negligent driver. Whilst RAF will pick up death and injury claims, and shield you from those claims, there is no such protection for property damage.

You will be sued for all resultant third party damages, which could easily reach into the millions. So what kind of savings account do you have to protect you against this?

Eish!

On my way to East London for Ironman.

My wife and I had an accident outside Humansdorp.

These cheap insurances are cheap for a reason. When you stuck in the middle of no where and the Insurance woman, says, sorry but you dont have XYZ. Then you pay for when you decided to go cheap on.
We with Santam now. Dropped Outsurance like a hot potatoe.

Just make sure you get all the road side assistance, car hire, and what ever you can get, for if you ever in an accident. You will need to pay for it of course, but money well spent for peace of mind. Esp when you travel with a loved one.

After Ironman, and the car at the panel beaters in humansdorp, and arriving back home (getting home was a mission, like you would not believe), but then the real **** began, in terms of my wife and I, each getting to work, by borrowing cars, getting lifts etc. Not fun or nice, I tell you.

Well my car is apparently too old. So i guess I'm screwed.

I know brokers can have benefits.... but if they won't help you....

I have seen anOutsurance ad that advertises that they can insure older cars.
If no other option then try that at least coz it will be better than no insurance...

Yeah phoned a couple of brokers and they all told me the same thing. My car is too old.

Thanks for all the help guys, it's greatly appreciated. I'm scared of going with outsurance, I'll see if I can maybe work something out.

Please PM me which brokers you contact in PMB. I know quite a few of the brokers there and would like to follow up on this... if you would like me to.

Personally I would also be weary of going with Outsurance.

I agree with the comments of 'be weary of Outsurance'.

I mentioned earlier about my trip to East London. I kid you not. When we mentioned to the panel beater that we are with Outsurance, he just smiled and dropped his head.

When you are in the middle of no where, last thing you need is **** from the Insurance.

Look im not blaming Outsurance. But I think for all the travel / commuting life style I live, for me, they are not the right Insurance. They may be differ for you. Best of luck.

So how much just for 3rd party insurance then?

It is the absolute minimum you should have. Most companies will charge between R500 and R800 per annum. Best investment you'll make though.

This morning on my way to work, my car was rear-ended by a VW Caddy. I was not a fault (I kid you not). Looks like my back bump needs to be replace and a dent on my boot.

The guy doesn’t have insurance and I don’t want to go through my insurance because their legal department sometimes can’t claim from the 2nd party (because people dodge payments) and the around turnover time from claiming back is between 3months to 3years.
Now I’m being a nice guy by going the cheaper option and not getting the insurance involved. The guy said he will pay cash.

This is where I need help; I’m looking for a Panel Beater (reliable) to repair the damages. There might be damages to the exhaust but that will need to be checked. I live in the Sandton area and don’t mind traveling to Midrand / Sandton / Wynberg for a shop.
I drive a 1997 White Honda Civic.
PS. I already have a Case No. from Sandton Police. I have the guys contact details, ID NO. and work line. There’s no running from me, I will ruin him. (I actually told him that in a friendly way)

^^^ Go look at that thread, that is why you need 3rd party insurance. Do you think the other guy planned bumping into him??

People do all sorts of crazy things to get money. So quite possible. It would not be the first time though.
