Vehicle Insurance

First For Women - R585 a month for car (2007 VW Polo Comfortline) and household (R150,000 cover).

Wow I've been pay R1600 (2014 Nissan Micra) for car and portal possessions(phone and laptop)... I need to move

I'll send you a PM with my broker's details.

I bought a BMW 330d 2 months ago. Being 22 years old it proved quite challenging finding a broker who could provide me with a proper offer at a reasonable price.

Alexander Forbes wanted R2800 with a 15% of claim excess... Discovery wanted R4000 with a 10% of claim excess and the rest did not want to quote due to me being so young.

My broker managed to get me full comprehensive cover with zero (R0) excess for R1900 including car hire, business use etc etc.

EDIT: My premium of R1900 also includes household contents of around R200k so actual premium for the car is +-R1700.

Sheesh, not bad. What year is that car?

wow... some of your insurance premiums are quite high.

I'm paying R520pm for a 2014 Hyundai i20.
Total policy including R300 contents, R70 000 portable possessions and structure is R1250pm
27yo with my license for 6 years.
Insured with Santam through a broker.

Previous insurance was with Hollard (also through broker), parked in a high risk area in a yard (not garage) @ R620pm

He's driving a car with arguably more power than the average driver of his age should be in charge of.
I'm paying R1600 for a 2016 330d, at the age of 30. It's insured for a value of R70x 000 though. Household content, 350k, is only R150pm, if memory serves.

I was actually referring to an earlier post that I read wrong :D

Thought someone was paying R1600 for insuring a Nissan Micra only.

2011 330d with all the extra I could think of.

PM me broker details please :)

Think i win. Miway had an offer a while ago where they gave discount the more you have with them.
Decided to try it out. My own two cars, plus my mom's insured for +- R1000 (Yaris T3 2006 model, Corolla 1.3 2010 model, Hyundai i10 1.2 2011 model plus home contents of about 200k.)

really happy with miway though.

Jumping on this thread. Would also appreciate broker details @ PsYTraNc3 . Tx in advance.

I notice you guys have quite 'low' contents cover ... I am currently insured for 750K contents assuming that I have to insure at the value of current i.e. 'today' prices of replacing everything and not my acquired cost should it be lost. I could be misguided here - as we don't have lots of stuff but when we do buy - we try to buy the best we can. I have never needed to make a claim in my life so am wondering if I am paying too much or approaching it the wrong way. Insights would be appreciated. Here is an example:-

Just thinking of a few things that we own (at acquired cost whenever it was bought - some 5 years ago)

Sofa = 25K
Lounge Furniture= 15K
TV Lounge = R20K
Curtains in house : 40K
Kitchen appliances: 60K
Cutlery: Dinner Set : 45K
Speakers/HiFi = R30K
Bicycle (when at home): R40K
Laptops : 60K
Phones : 30K
iPads: R20K
Other IT equipment: NASx2 + Wi-Fi = R20K

comes to 380K and I haven't even counted everything else..

So what would an insurer do if I paid 20K for my lounge suite and it was stolen/destroyed. Would they only pay me R20K out or at the 50K cost to replace at today's prices?

Thanks!

Household contents are insured for replacement cost (new) which is crazy. Not everyone buys new furniture.

You're right, but no one wants to sit on a used couch by choice or sleep on a second hand bed. Easier just to please everyone with new for old.
