Vehicle Insurance

Hey Guys,

Currently insured with M&F and my premiums are R780. I'm shopping around and MiWay has come in cheaper @ R640.

Anyone had any experience with MiWay and would you recommend them?

Thanks

Only experience I have with them is, when I moved to a safer area with a lockup garage (which I didn't have before), I got charged more.

So I cancelled.

Hmm do you think we'd have a case in being paid back all the premiums? Would be at least R35k.

I'm busy trying to get quotes from brokers at the moment. I'll advise him to do the same

You'll probably only get the premiums for the current period back (from renewal) but I would push for as much as possible and threaten with Ombudsman and the imminent TCF rules which would apply because all FSP's are supposed to already be working within those rules even though not in place.

They will probably say ignorance of the law is your responsibility, however that might be true but they are supposed to ask ALL the relevant questions and explain everything which is never done by Direct Insurers. When issuing a new policy or adding a vehicle to the policy "who is the registered owner" is a very pertinent question.

What does everyone do for 'proof' of purchase. I keep scanned receipts of all big ticket items online and take pictures of certain things. Once a year (maybe should do more often) I walk around the house recording a video of everything making pointers to certain items so that if I ever need to make a claim, I can use that as supporting proof in a way. Don't know if they will actually ever accept it.

Check your policy. I've confirmed several times that I do not need to specify my PC (which is probably R40-50k), and the same applies to other appliances. I'll ask them again when I force them to not increase my premiums.

Otherwise photos with make and model, first photo showing it clearly in your home, second with the details. But anything can be fudged, just take photos of your rich friends receipts for instance.

True that. Never thought about that. Well in most cases , I will have corresponding credit card statement to correlate receipts ... they can even have all the later ones to prove for example that I did not 'return' it.

I'll send you a PM with my broker's details.

I bought a BMW 330d 2 months ago. Being 22 years old it proved quite challenging finding a broker who could provide me with a proper offer at a reasonable price.

Alexander Forbes wanted R2800 with a 15% of claim excess... Discovery wanted R4000 with a 10% of claim excess and the rest did not want to quote due to me being so young.

My broker managed to get me full comprehensive cover with zero (R0) excess for R1900 including car hire, business use etc etc.

EDIT: My premium of R1900 also includes household contents of around R200k so actual premium for the car is +-R1700.
Broker details?
