Vehicle licence renewal "transaction fee"

I just renewed my motor vehicle licence at my local Post Office. They charged me a Transaction fee of R72. I actually did receive a renewal notice in the post this year - which says the Transaction fee is R42. What have others paid as the Transaction fee?

I notice last year the Transaction Fee that I paid at the same Post Office was R42.

Actually, looking through all of my licence renewals, it seems the Transaction Fee was static at R36 from 2010 to 2016, then increased to R42 in 2017 and now... well now, I'm not sure what it is!

I heard there would be a massive jump this year, let me dig up the article.

*edit* here, but someone jumped the gun, should only apply from 1st Feb unless thats when your license expires?

how can they justify a transaction fee of R72, bloody rippoff.

Well, it expires 31 Jan, so I guess I'm liable for the increased transaction fee regardless of when I actually renewed?

I need to do this shortly. I didn't get anything in the post. What do in need to take to post office?
 
I did it Friday. You need to fill he license renewal form here:

And bring that with copies:

I did mine online back at the beginning of December because it expires on the 31st and is a **** up every year.

Come 21st of January I send a mail like I do every year to inquire as to where the hell it is because as usual it's missing in action.

The very next morning it's in my post box...but get this for the irony it arrives with the notification of expiry.

So had I relied on the government I would have gotten the notice after it had expired and passed it's grace period already.

In 7 years in SA and having a car, I have yet to see what a notification of expiry looks like.

The bright side is that I never received a fine either.
 
Wtf. I did mine this morning and got charged the R72.

And my license expires 31 Jan. I feel violated.

There is a form you need to complete. Plus you may be asked for a copy of your ID. Take your ID with you and last years disc paper. That is about it, although I know of some post offices that also want proof of residence.

You can download the form from the licensing department website or hope the PO where you go has one for you to complete.

And visa, and passport and traffic registration when you’re foreigner like Hamish and me.
 
Yup, me too. Dude at the post office told me they issued ALL the forms incorrectly and that he has endured a lot of screaming for it.
 
The transaction fee is on the Assessment for Renewal form. Its an extra fee for the Council employees to come to work
