Vehicle Licence Renewal

Hi guys :3

This is one of those questions where I face palm myself for even asking.
My boyfriends car licence expired last week. I have the white renewal notice thingy. My question is, can I just go into a post office pay and have it renewed without them asking for ID or giving me hassles? Because the car is registered in his fathers name. And long story short that is just not going to work out very well.

I'm also an idiot because i got the notice last week and then just forgot.

To renew your car licence at the post office you will need to bring the MVL2 form that is sent to you in the post, a copy of ID and the appropriate fees. it is advisable to make a copy of your ID before you go otherwise be subject to the 80c photocopy fee charged by the post office.

If you did not recieve the MVL2 licence renewal notice in the post, fill in the MVL1 form which you can download below and take the completed form with you to the post office.

Also, where are you located?

Just asking as you can't renew at the post office in Western Cape. If you are in Cape Town you can do it online if you want: https://www.capetown.gov.za/en/Vehiclelicensing/Pages/Licencepayments.aspx
 
You need ID and you have 28 days after the disk expired date
 
Depending on the Post Office, where I typically renew, you need not even sign the thing. You present them with the AARTO renewal slip, they take your money and print the new licence sheet.
 
I go with the renewal slip, the money and walk out with the new license..

Car isn't even licensed in my name.

Yeah I've heard that The post office by us (Elspark, JHB) does it.

I'm just really hoping they wont give me issues with the ID thing because that is not going to be fun. If we get pulled over in a roadblock and I haven't managed to renew it, but it is within the grace period, will they fine us? We're going to Oppikoppi tomorrow >.<

Either way I am going to give it a shot tomorrow :') was just trying to find out more or less what to expect lol
 
No they will not fine you. Thats why its called a grace period.
 
Wont fine you if it is in the grace period. depending on the line at post office it will take you not longer that 10mins
 
I've always renewed without providing identification , and always at my local post office. You should have no problem before the grace period expiry

I managed to renew my wife's car license at the Post Office on Sauer street in JHB CBD last week, no ID required, just the required amount. If you don't have the renewal notice, then you need ID an have to complete a form as well.
