Hi guys, just would like to know if they are any good, because i'm thinking on purchasing myself one.
Last time i checked Toshiba's external was a bad choice, had some bad feedback.
And aswell would it be a better purchase than Western Digital, Thanx.

As far as externals go i have actually had the best luck with Toshiba, have 4 of them and none have failed, had a Samsung and a Verbatim fail on me though. I would say samsung and toshiba are good choices. Stay away from seagate.

I'm considering a Verbatim 2TB myself, not sure how "great" they are, but they're well priced.
You can't go wrong with WD, but my personal preference is Seagate (There enclosures seem
more solid, and I've had a lot of issues with WD hard drives (Click of Death).

As far as Samsung goes (G3 Station in particular), STAY AWAY! They're really crapply built
and the power connector will eventually break. Samsung will tell you that this voids warranty,
since it's "physical damage" caused to the drive. I've seen this happen on more than one
occasion.

If you want a reliable drive, I've had no issues with Seagate, so that's the one to go for
if you're willing to spend a little more.

UPDATE: It would seem opinions vary on this: :) See above.

I would prefer Western Digital as well though, but m just not to sure with Verbatim, Its like they been here recently, lol!!!
and yes was checking upon the 2TB one, are there any 4TB available for purchase?

I've had good results with Verbatim external drives aswell as Transcend, however I can't say the same for Toshiba. Their hard drives are absolute rubbish, five Toshiba drives have failed on me within the last 4 years, probably six drives by June. As far as manufacturers go, I've found Samsung, Hitachi and IBM to be the most reliable when it comes to SATA.

Hey, as far as the physical hard disks go, I'm a fan of Samsung, Seagate and Hitachi/IBM,
it's just Western Digital and Seagate's Maxtor Drives I'm not very fond of.

I don't know what Toshiba's enclosures are like, or what make of hard drive they use, so I
can't speak for them. But Samsung's G3 enclosure won't even last a year, and you'll have
to bust it open and buy a new enclosure for the drive.

I have a 1TB Verbatim external drive here and it has served me well for over a year now without any issues.

Windoes says there is a Samsung drive in there though.

I've had a Verbatim 2.5" "store & go" fail on me after owning it for less than 3 months - nothing wrong with the HDD(seagate),was the power PCB inside the unit.
Guess your never going to get 100% non-failure rate out of any of them but i now use separate enclosure/HDD so i can actually make use of any warranty.
Had the same happen with an Iomega also - their warranty support people ranted & raved so much about me being "unauthorised" to have opened it i will never buy another of their products ever again.

So its various opinions , i read , lol!!
And now im even more confused , heehee.
So far ived only knew Western digital and Seagate, which ived been using for a long time now.
Will need to check around more.
Thanx

I have had a verbatim store and go 120 Gb for three years and now it is showing some signs that it's end is near. I have also purchased a 750 Gb 2.5 inch from Makro last week, apparently the disk inside is a Samsung, but it has a 2 year warranty.
