Vertcoin

So after 16 hours the pool still says "No shares. I also seem to have a very high DOA%.

Am I doing something wrong?

The top line here is my address.

I see from your screenshot you say that you are the top address, which is averaging around 40Mh/s, but the screenshot you sent of your miner shows your average of around 150Mh/s. Which one is your miner and what's your DOA?

If you are the 40Mh/s miner then you need to move to the pool for lower hashrates: vtc.splatgrave.com:9181
Then if your DOA % is high can you tell me what your roundtrip average (latency) is if you ping the vtc.splatgrave.com address? Does it timeout, what's your internet connectivity like?

EDIT: OK, I went back in the forums and I see you are the 150Mh/s. Your DOA% is about 8% which isin't horrible but could be better. I suggest checking your latency and connectivity stability, that affects your DOA %. You will eventually receive shares, it takes a while and vertcoin rewards on how long you mine for, so stay on the mining and the shares will come through.

DOA isin't too bad but could be better, 3% and below is normal/acceptable.
Electrum is fine.

What's your latency like to the pool? If you ping vtc.splatgrave.com, whats the average roundtrip?

I got 22ms this morning , it looks like it's returned to normal earnings again, I'm gonna keep an eye out on the latency later this afternoon to see if it might be an issue, thanks again.

Obviously 22ms is perfect, you must be in Cape Town :P
I'm assuming your connectivity is stable?

Sometimes the payouts are delayed, I might get 5 consecutive payouts and then nothing for a couple hours.
Thing with this coin is leave it, just monitor to make sure connectivity, mining etc. is fine, and wait for the rewards.
As soon as you start trying different things which involved restarting the miner, you reset the reward clock and extend the payout waiting period.

Thanks, shares showing up now

I’m just trying to make sense of this Pool. Is it a pool or just a node that acts as a proxy and actually mining on another Pool? I see when a block is found the rewards are are split with about 522 other miners. There aren’t 522 miners on that pool. I thought that block rewards are shared network wide, but it seems they are only shared Pool wide?

Secondly, is there no way to see a graph that shows unconfirmed balance or transactions on the local Pool/node?

I’ve pointed one rig to the local Pool and another to mininghub to compare.

The hashrate fluctuates and it takes a while to catch up to it's average. The hashrate you see while mining is not neccesarily exactly what you will see on the pool, it fluctuates a bit. Thing about vert is you have to be patient and let it run.

I’ve changed miners and the correct hashrate is reported now. Averaging about 37mhs per 1070

It's both in a sense. It allows the 'pooling' of miners in the same geolocation, then pools together with other pools to solve a block. It's decentralised, that's the point of vertcoin, so there is not 1 overload controlling the mining and payouts. The payouts for the pool get paid instantly and directly to your address, nobody has control over that.

There are multiple front-ends, this specific front-end you can see current payouts with addresses here: http://vtc.splatgrave.com:9171/current_payouts but it's not a graph of course. Do a find/search for your address.

Thx for the info

Yes indeed :D I'll let it run for a few days and see where it goes.

How delayed are the payments on the local Pool? I have 0.67 in my wallet from the local Pool. This rig started mining at 11pm last night in the Pool. On the mininghub Pool I’m sitting on 1.38 and started mining at 12am.

It all depends on how many miners you have and how long to solve a share, i.e. expected time to share and share block. I have also seen a huge delay in payouts but I think that was because of the difficulty, it was close to 500 today and has settled a bit. I am waiting on one rig which hasn't paid out for about a day but it will eventually pay out and there will probably be a flurry of payments.

I first starting mining on european pools and the DOA% was so bad that I was missing out on rewards and that's why I switched to local and its been a lot better. These past couple of days have been a bit crazy but I think that's just because of the push to vert, everyone is starting to mine this coin so I think there is a lot of crunching happening, that's just my opinion though.

Remember, it's decentralised, nobody controls when or how you get paid, that's the idea behind p2pool :)
I don't have all the answers, this is just from my own personal experience.

Is there any benefit to setting up a Node?

I'm loving the volatility of this coin. It's so entertaining to watch people flock to mine it as the price increases and then drop off as the price drops.
Now is the time to mine, the difficulty is much lower because the price is low, it allows for good mining and more frequent payouts and obviously more coins.

As soon as the price starts climbing the miners return and struggle because of the difficulty, it's a dog show haha!

Missing the opportunity to mine Bitcoin years ago (really should've just left it).
But anyways, thought I'd give this one a shot with a 1060.

Same, I didn't understand the value of it, just enjoyed the process of figuring out how to mine it. Once that happened I moved onto something else haha.

This coin has a really good dev team behind it, the guys are smart and have great ideas on how to manage this coin and the mining of it. I'm still learning more about it everyday!

Any recommended resources I can look into?

Earnings are pretty good today :o
