Also no sympathy for people in their biggencars doing 160+ and then moaning about the fine.

It's not cut and dry like that and is per speed limit zone and different per province.

And even then you need to be caught in the act to be arrested.

Thanks. Still, doing anything significantly higher than 120 anywhere is very stupid, except on a race track.

I disagree. Those long straights on the N1 towards the Freestate, with no traffic, in a proper roadworthy car is not dangerous. You can see for kilometres ahead, so no chance of any surprises.

In fact, on one quiet road in Australia, the number of deaths increased after a speed limit was imposed:

Can only hope AARTO comes into effect soon for someone like you then, your license will get suspended quick smart and the roads will be much safer with you off them
 
I always wondered, if the car is registered in a trust and you are not physically pulled over who is responsible for the fines?

Is there any way to search for fines against a car rather than an ID number. Ie i want to search based on my number plate?

It has been proven that alcohol plays a bigger role in road deaths than speed. If we start talking about which laws make the road the safest this will be a never ending conversation

Its not about which laws are safer..

Following a speed limit is a simple thing, and if you consistently choose not to follow it you shouldn't be on the roads.

So is not overtaking on a solid barrier, or checking your blind spot everytime you change lanes, or or or... these are all simple rules. Do you follow them all?
 
Do you get a discount if you pay a fine early?

Apparently I did 110 in a 80 zone on the N1. Didn't even know it becomes 80 when you pass Paarden Eiland.

Some places will yes..

But its usually stipulated on the fine itself.

And safer.

Esp wrt overtaking on blind spots.

On narrow roads with a slow-moving vehicular unit in front you get those twits in their biggencars that absolutely have to be at front, blind spots and solid lines be damned.

Those people usually have a passion for a death wish - somebody else's death as they blithely continue on a downgrade to destruction at the expense of somebody else.
