Very Slow Telkom LTE speed

I hope someone here can give me some advise. I was forced to change over to LTE after my 4 Mbps ADSL line went down again and Telkom said they weren't going to repair it, I have to change over to LTE. I have a HUAWEI-B315-1650 router which I have been using on and off over the past 2 years when my ADSL line was down and until about 6 months ago, I used to get over 20 Mbps when doing a speed test but over the last couple of months I'm lucky if I get over 1 Mbps during the evenings. During day time I usually get between 2 and 5 Mbps. But I mostly use the internet in the evenings being at work during day time. The signal strenght shows full 5 bars 4G signal on the router status so it is not due to a weak signal. I live in Pietermaritzburg and when I test the router at a friend of mine who lives in Hilton about 15 KM from me, I get over 60 Mbps.
I assume it is due to Telkom having too many LTE subscribers in my area running from the same exchange and I heard that Cell C is busy canceling all LTE contracts with service providers and that most of these service providers are changing to the Telkom network which means even a bigger load on the Telkom network which will result in even slower speeds. There is no Fibre optic coverage in my area as yet. Can anyone advice me what to do to get better speed without having to move house to an area where the speed is better?

Hi there

Firstly have you logged into the router itself and changed the band setting at all?

ok secondly, have you considered changing to a newer router?
you can find the B618-65D on takealot. and it will probably boost your speeds.

last option is probably external antenna unit.

What difference would changing the router make if he'd previously experieced high speeds on the router that he's using.
@fromb I'm experiencing the same problems as you.

The b618 has a better LTE cat range. so can possible yield alot better results in differant bands
 
Telkom LTE has gone to ****. It's super slow. I literally get better speeds and latency on 3G settings.
 
Try setting your b315 to use the 2300mhz lte band which generally offers higher throughput. Also try moving the router to a different location in the house to see if it won't connect to a different tower.

Another option might be to look at the supersonic lte packages which are similarly priced. You would need an approved router though.

Nobody holds these criminals to account! I am having the exact problem... 0.8 Mbps down, 2 or 3 up....And this is for business, since our ADSL was also stolen, and Helkom said they were not replacing it....

How does one remedy this? I've spent hours on the phone to Axxess, and they just say it's Telkom.....

Frustrating....

I've just paid 4K to have a Poynting antenna installed. Speed is up (ha, ha!!!) to 4Mbps, and 5 down. On Vodacom I was getting over 40 Mbps in the internal antenna!!!! What????
