Grey's Anatomy as just started all over again along with others,

TOP TV is falling in the same pattern as DSTV but just worst with the repeats why do we put up with so much ***** with out us they can close there door’s but it seem they don’t understand.

We have been raped for many years by DSTV and now it feels like Top TV is raped us as well.

You don't understand how pay tv works.

Dstv has bought out virtually all the good content for the next few years.

You may not like it but top tv's strategy is spot on. It's targetted at people who did not have dstv before.

I agree with you on the movie front, (DSTV wise). They buy a few movies and show them over and over again for a few months. Could use more diversity.

For series its difficult though, other than showing complete crap, what can u really do except run repeats? There is only so much good content coming out. Taking into account u can get basically anything online, would u be able to watch 10 different things 24 hours a day which u would want to watch, without repeats? Even for a week.

@ Carbon Fibre +1 on that. Most of the DSTV customers who moved over to top TV are dissapointed thinking they going to watch a lot of new stuff.

Im loving the walking dead, although its only one show.
Was house sitting for 3 days and got to watch DSTV again after a 5 month absence, and i can honestly say i didn't miss it.
However!
I do not just watch satellite tv.
The Internet is full of satisfying tv.

Spyral has a point though,im constantly trying to get onto the have your say section of TopTV about the pointless repeating of Seinfeld from 1 through 4 without showing 5,6,7 and 8.

The show is syndicated so why they do not just loop the whole thing is beyond me.

You people just don’t get it....... they have repeated 99% of there content not just once but over and over and over

Here is an example:
The Simpson it comes on at 21:45-22:05 than same Episode 10:30-10:50 than again 15:00-15:20 than again 18:45-19:05 and after 2 months they start the season all over again

Another Example:
Silver: Same bunch of movies everyday so what you watch today you will watch for the next 7 days and then they will add 1 new movie

Another Example:
Discovery Science: they have 1 month of shows then they repeat everything again, month after month after month.

So NO that is not how Pay-Tv works

@ Carbon-Fiber: "You may not like it but top tv's strategy is spot on. It's targeted at people who did not have dstv before" I don’t have a problem them showing us older series and movies e.g. Grey's from S1, E1 but after season 1 don’t show us S1, E1 again in the same time slot they can start S2, E1 but re-airing again and again in the same time slot you now have a problem that every other channel you have seen

I do not have any problem with TopTV except for Grey's Anatomy repeating in the same timeslot. Would have been nice if they switched it to another time, but I do not think there is any other series on Fox that they can swap it out with.

Discovery Science is not repeating everything, except for Ghost Lab (on Investigation). Love the new show in Travel&Living (Housewreck Rescue, I watch that instead of Grey's).

Their movies are only watchable on Friday and Saturday nights (Channel 100) but the rest of the time it is pretty boring and the repeats reminds me of Mnet Stars. The same moview shown in different timeslots for a whole week.

But realistically speaking, for my R249 I get more enjoyment than from the DSTV Compact package

We get what we pay for.

No premium sport, crap movies, numerous repeats and lack of local content = R249 for a full bouquet.

However, with that said I think it is only fair that we give TopTV a chance because they are still new. From what I understand, firstly, the channels that you are talking about are not TopTV channels per se. Secondly, they need to accummulate content so that the repeats are less and more far apart. Filling up 24 hour broadcasts with new content would be mightyly expensive because its more new shows that have to be bought. Also, remember that TopTV cannot advertise yet so not much money is available for new content. Give them another 6 to 12 months and things are supposed to improve. If they don't then they will be in serious trouble (i.e. reductions in subs).

I have fallen into a system of skipping a week or two before watching current tv for instance again because they repeat so often - its just how it is worldwide.

We get what we pay for.

Totally agree. I have decided not to be subjected to this rubbish and have unsubscribed. The best move for us. Just looking at the schedules for the next 3 months on tvsa will show you that there is very little new stuff coming to TopTV. TopCrime is still in 1998 repeating Relic Hunter and Tropical Heat mixed in with rubbish German translated shows. The fox channels are the worst syndicated channels around.
Here is what we have done for entertainment. Our contact at work has every tv show imaginable. Buy 10 seasons of the latest shows in DivX for R300 and get 2 seasons free! The quality is better than satelite tv. 50 new movies for R200 in DivX. A good media player is all you need. This is the trend now. Everyone is doing it.

The bottom line, TopTV is going to keep on repeating everything. 99% of the content will always be ancient. I would like to see them better the R99 bundle with maybe a kids channel and another variety channel and then we will switch that on again. Having international news and current affairs channels can never get old.

You are paying for DIVX movies and series? You do realise it will probably work out cheaper for yourself to get a decent Telkom line and an uncapped provider? I cannot believe the balls of this work contact to actually sell DIVX movies, it's almost as bad as the copied DVD guys.

I've had TopTV since the beginning. I don't watch enough TV to have seen any repeats on Science, except for one Gadget Show episode.

The new shows, well, I only enjoy Ecopolis. Oh, and Mean Green Machines. And they used to show a challenge where competitors built vehicles that drives itself, but that is not showing anymore.

So no, I have not really experienced that many repeats on this channel. But then again I only watch certain things on it as it is not my favourite channel.

On my favourite channels I do experience more repeats but I experienced the same repeat pattern on Compact and I enjoy the type of content shown on TopTV much more.

Yes I also enjoy alot of the content on TTV but it gets very fustrating when you watch a show, season ends than they repeat it at the same time slot
e.g.
So if you where working @ 17:00 you would have missed that show then they repeat it again in the same time slot so you are missing it again.

This is happening with Grey's Anatomy. I wrote to Fox International Africa but have had no response (as they sell the channel pre-packaged), and will probably not get an answer.

The difference (biggest) between TopTV and DSTV is that DSTV (through Naspers) owns most of the channels it broadcasts and have more control over it. The top channels are compiled for TTV and should really be looked at (except for TopOne which is ok) from TopTV's side.

I tried the uncapped route. But for a decent line speed it costs a lot of money still. I do get a lot of free DivX stuff from Stel University. Everyone dumps stuff on the server and students swop stuff etc. I do not mind paying a bit extra for high quality DivX downloads from some people. Their time and their line.
I want entertainment, this is affordable to me, and it is costing me a decent media player a a good hard drive. Pay TV is driving me crazy. Even the target market of TopTV is starting to complain now. All the new R299 special subscribers are getting gatvol. Check out their wall on their facebook page. TopTV is facing a huge back lash. People want good Modern content.

I agree with the previous poster-you get what you pay for.If TTv introduces a bouquet that offers the latest stuff but at a premium cost people will complain about the price. Its like wanting a BMW for the cost of a Toyota. You absolutely cannot have it both ways.
People are swopping data 'free of charge' as means to get what they want. This seems to be the only option.

BREAKING.Fox Entertainment deliberately holding back on shows

Fox Entertainment (TopTV 180) is deliberately not broadcasting new shows or showing further new seasons of shows like Grey's Anatomy until 2011 and rather opting to broadcast repeats since it doesn't want to waste new programming during the end of the year holiday season when it believes there's less viewers. After a massive number of complaints, confused and irate viewers and an outcry this week due to a shocking, unannounced schedule time shift and a jarring back-to-the-start reset repeat of Grey's Anatomy, TopTV's Fox Entertainment (Top 180) is finally responding by admitting that this is ''a great inconvenience to viewers and we will try to rectify''. TopTV viewers were waiting for a new season of Grey's Anatomy to start on Fox Entertainment this week when the show inexplicably were reset to episode one of the first season which started a rebroadcast, while the Fox Entertainment schedule also moved 45 minutes earlier. Viewers are fuming mad at Fox Entertainment that gave no explanation for the Grey's Anatomy reset, and didn't announce the schedule time shift. ''We are bound by global agreements concerning broadcast times,'' Fox Entertainment's new local South African representative tells TV with Thinus. ''The fact that that we broadcast in four different time zones across the continent means that in terms of our obligations certain programmes have to be shown during a prescribed window across the continent. To this end we adjusted timings on 1 November at the same time as daylight savings adjustments took place on international feeds,'' says Fox Entertainment, confirming what I told you RIGHT HERE yesterday. Neither TopTV subscribers, nor TopTV themselves were however informed of this jarring change, and sources tell me that TopTV are flooded by angry subscribers. Regarding Grey's Anatomy suddenly starting all over again from the first season, Fox Entertainment says ''we are aware of the sometimes frustrating nature surrounding repeats, and in particular, the complaints around Grey's Anatomy''. The supposedly premium general entertainment channel on TopTV says ''there are constraints we have to consider, which range simply from the business model of all our international channels, to the availability of rights for individual seasons of shows.'' ''While repeats are an integral feature of pay television, we do regret any inconvenience to viewers, but still strive to offer as many new hours per week as we can, particularly in primetime. As you can understand with the festive season approaching we are reluctant to launch new series until January 2011 so that viewers taking a vacation would not miss out on the start of the series. We are committed to rectifying the issues you raised,'' Fox Entertainment tells me, ''as we seek to provide viewers with a viewing experience that is enjoyable without stress.'' - TV WITH THINUS
