I have been craving vetkoek for the longest time now.

Where can one find a traditional vetkoek - with our without filling - in Jhb?

:)

Bah...don't think that exists in Jhb. Close to where I live in Wierdapark, you find tant Sannie se vetkoek den.

Oh my word, the vetkoek that this little vet koekie produces is amazing, especially the large dagwood one. Even a plain ol vetkoek with mince tastes heavenly

Wierdapark - is that close to Centurion ?

Have family in that area; will have to commandeer them to get a vetkoek or 2 for me !

Just tell them to go to the corner of koedoe and willem botha (shoprite on the corner), drive down koedoe (showrite on your right), its on the next street corner, just after the now defunct timbercity thats going to become ferrairas

Knead dough, bake in oil ... nope ! :)

Most Spars sell ready made bread dough (look in the fridge sections) You can buy white or brown dough and all you have to do is take it home, shape your vetkoek at deep fry them. It takes all the hard work out of preparing the dough and you can still brag that you made them yourself :)

I was also going to say make your own :)

I go to my local spar, buy 1kg of their bread dough early in the morning and then leave it on my dining room table for a couple of hours, this lets the dough rise out nicely. When I'm ready to start making them I simply flatten the dough again and cut it into squares for the size I like and deepfry them.

I would have +1'ed making your own. But it seems not. I would have said +1 for Ouma se Kombuis, but considering location, thats not feasible. I suppose thats a -2 in the end then...
