Wow... that rots. I have never seen such a converter. I am sure they must exist, but I have never seen them.

looks like you need something like this...

http://www.smarthome.com/7743.html

which you can get here...

or here...

You can't simply make a cable to do it. The conversion is not at all trivial, so you would need a set-top box of sorts to do it. K-World makes something that does just that. Expect to pay a couple hundred.

VGA connector has 15 pins, each serving their own purpose. 15-pin VGA is similar to HD technologies. Each colour is transmitted separately, sync signals are transmitted, etc. For composite, the signals are all multiplexed together. Some people have claimed to come right by simply shorting some of the VGA pins, but I wouldn't advise trying this.

Thanx allot guys for the rapid response!! i was quoted R999 at one stage although i hoped it'd be maybe R70 or so odd rand but thanx you people!!

A compro V300 should do the trick if I am not mistaken ... had someone phone me about it earlier.

I have one of the below adapter cables that I bought in the UK earlier this year - still in the bag (bought two and only used one) - would this work? If so, make me an offer...

This is what came with the other one I had - insert text:
- Brand New VGA to Video TV / S-Video Adapter Cable
- Supports both TV-out and S-video out cable
- VGA connector on one end and both RCA Jack Video (TV) Out and S-Video Out connectors on the other end
- It will work with laptops and desktop with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector.
Please check your PC & Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector otherwise the cable will not function
Connector: D-Sub High Density 15 pin Male to S-Video Mini Din 4 pin Female and RCA Jack

I also have one of those converts like Howardb but I haven't tested it. A firend asked me for a converter so he could use his PlayStation2 using his PC monitor, I taught this will work but it didn't, maybe you have to connect it to the PC graphics card and it will output to the TV.

The PC graphics card/laptop must support TV-out for this type of adapter cable to work - if it doesn't support TV-out, then it won't work.

Peder - check your laptop manual to establish this first...
