Hi guys appreciate the help.

I would love to know which laptop is good for video editing and design. What should I look for , I know the Mac book pro is the best option but are there cheaper alternatives , it’s a bit too expensive for me.

I edit a lot of my videos in premiere pro and do some after effects and my current HP crashes when I’m working with large video or it takes forever to render.

Please guys what’s the best video editing laptop you recommend, or should I save up for a MacBook Pro?

Thanks

Macbook Pro is only better if you use Final Cut Pro, if you're using Premiere then you'll get a lot more performance for your money with a Windows laptop.

Are you using an external screen or will you rely on the laptop screen?

No external screen at the moment, so will rely on the Laptop

Max budget is R25000 but I’m looking for something that’s going to sustain me for a while so I’m willing to save up if need be

25k on a Windows laptop should get you something very juicy. You should have been looking around black friday for specials, but Christmas is still coming so you might pick something up.

Whatever brand you take I recommend it should have a dedicated GPU, not onboard.
Core i7 CPU
And minimum 8GB RAM, but 16GB would be better.

Don't forget to get an SSD. For video it's going to need to be a pretty big one.

That along with lots of RAM will probably make the biggest difference to the editing process.

I would say something like this:

You want as recent architecture i7 as you can find. If you can get a i7 8700 it would be better.
At least 16GB RAM.
Large SSD. 512GB is a bit small for my liking, as your files will probably be huge, but you can probably dump some of it on an external.
Dedicated GPU, although I'm not sure how big a difference for example a 1070 will make over the 1050ti.
IPS display, because you're working with visuals. 4k is nice, but not necessary for a display of that size.
HDMI 2.0 (or display port 1.2)
I found out the other day that my 2 year old work laptop can't do 4k @ 60hz on an external display, because it only has HDMI 1.4.

I currently use a Desktop with an i5, 16gb ram, GTX1060 6GB version, and a 512GB SSD. I did have issues with After Effects as it cannot do large videos and crashes but that was resolved with the latest version and Adobe Media Encoder. You then create your project and finish it and save it. Then use Media Encoder to create the output. I still re-encode it to bring the size down to an acceptable size for 1080p and encoding takes a max of 20min for a 5-10min video.

For the budget, it might be better to go for a PC but if you need it to be mobile, then the laptop will have to do. Check for i7/AMD alternative but needs to be in the upper end range and you should be good to go.
