Video formats

Am not sure what are acceptable video formats here in South Africa. I need to do some editing and believe PAL is the correct choice but noticed you get different frequencies, fps, and video size (width/height) .. Is there a standard on these?
 
PAL-I is the broadcasting standard used for terrestial tv.

Lines/Fields: 625/50
Video Bandwidth: 5.5 MHz
Sound Carrier: 6.0 MHz
Channel Bandwidth: 8 MHz
Active lines: 582*

surely it depends what you want to do with it? What is your final purpose. What do you want to do with it when you are finished?

The internet has several common formats and containers. And Video enthusiasts all have their own preferences and methods.

Can you give us some more info?

Play Video on DVD/TV .. either as widescreen or standard ...
