Video freezing

A friend of mine is having a problem with his computer. He says that his videos keeping freezing at random points in time and won't continue.

This happens with VLC as well as windows media player, and for videos on the HDD as well as DVD's.

He's running XP Pro + SP3
No graphics card (But he had no issues on Vista on the same pc)
All the mobo drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions?

I suggest he get some sort of external heat source, that will thaw those videos right off....
 
too many video codecs can also cause **** like that
 
OK, try this...uninstall VLC and windows media player. Install "K-lite mega codec pack", google it, it comes with media player classic and every known codec to man. During install, choose "lots of stuff".

I used to have a similar problem, it's gone after doing this.
