Anyone here got some guru knowledge in the .mkv to ps3 area?
I have a bunch of HD content which I am trying to convert to make viewable on the ps3, but only some of it converts via the mkv2vob application, and streaming via ps3 media server from my laptop is also not working for those files as the transcoding process, I assume, is the exact same one that mkv2vob is tripping over.

Does anyone know of any other applications out there that may be able to assist where mkv2vob generally fails?

Ouch. However, if you can play it on your PC you should be able to stream it without fuss. Check your codecs on your PC?

So you can stream on Ps3 from PC - never knew that.
The one that don't convert - are they not converting at all or just out of sync.
My laptop (a few years old) creates a video/audio lag as the computer is too slow.
I used a faster one and it worked.
Wish the PS3 updates to that mkv files can be used.

I use ps3 media server without issues. You need to get a new beta version from the forum and then in the settings you need to disable subtitles. Then it will just remux the video and not reencode to mpeg2. Remuxing uses hardly any cpu resources.

I copied a single 16GB MPG file (converted from MKV) to my PS3 via TVersity...

As far as I understand it, the PC will play the file because it supports the decoding of .mkv, whereas in order to stream it to the ps3 the file needs to be transcoded to a format that the ps3 will accept?
Anyway, it plays some files - but the same files that I am unable to convert using mkv2vob just start and then hang on the ps3 when streamed...

My bad - being the retard I am i never read your full post that u had tried mkv2vob. I use it alot and have never had any problems with it?

What issues are you having ?

I am having issues it seems with the remuxing, stuff like "remux failed" and in some instances it tells me the job is 100% complete but the output file is like 64k...

H264 + AC3 -> remux to M2TS

H264 + AAC -> transmux to MP4

I haven't tried it, but is it able to convert files that tsMuxer doesn't?

It will definitely work. It can handle anything you throw at it, the only problem is that the UI is not to good.

That is correct, however to achieve the transcoding the PC needs to be able to decode from .mkv and encode in a supported format. If it can't decode the .mkv due to codec issues it will be unable to stream.

I do not stream but rather use a flash drive. The process I use for .mkv is this

1. Check what level it was encoded on. If 4.1 or lower then the video stream usually will not need to be recoded.
2. Demux all the streams using MKVExtractGUI.
3. If the audio is AAC and the video level 4.1 and below then sweet, I can just remux into an mp4 container using YAMB.
4. If the audio is AC3 then I convert it using Megui into AAC and remux using YAMB.
5. If the H264 stream is higher than level 4.1 or I need subtitles hardcoded then I recode using Megui, and mux with the AAC audio using YAMB.

Bit of a schlep if you have a lot of mkv videos. I just recently got a Mede8er that is being talked about a lot on here and so far it plays everything. I know that doesn't help your ps3 issue but if you get sick of converting and remuxing like I did it is something to consider.

OK I made some progress last night.
I took one of the files that mkv2vob was having difficulties with, and used mkvmerge to demux/remux into a new .mkv file.
Once this process was complete, I ran the .mkv to check the audio/video synch and everything was 100%.
This time when I used mkv2vob to convert the new file it processed without any errors (as apposed to it giving me an error after about 30 seconds before), however the audio is lagging behind the video somewhat.

Anyone have an idea why the streams would be synched perfectly in the new .mkv and not in the .mpg?
I think it has something to do with the software converting from DTS -> AAC, but I tested other DTS files last night with no issues.
