I am using HP laptop nx6110 and wanted to get 3G from vodacome ,my need for using 3G is to use ViOP calls from my laptop when i am not at ADSL. so the question is : is it possible to make calls from my laptop using 3G.pls give me an Idea on that

It is possible yes, but it will depend on your Signal quality and also signal strength u get from your Tower.

Wireless has lots of lagg, so u might find it that your calls might drop after a 2-3 minutes (due to lagg spikes or if the signal strength is low)

I use skype on a regular basis especially when Im out of de office. But Napalm is right, itll depend on de signal quality. As a matter of fact, yesterday I had a conference calls nwith my colleagues over skype. To my surprise I never got the call, (even though I cud see them online). later on when I called one of them (via phone) I was told that they tried to call me several times wuthout succes. So it'll depend on coverag/signa/etc. Otherwise if u r within a gud 3G/HSDPA area VOIP works like a charm.

oh, I use Voda 3g & HSDPA Card with Dell D620.

for the signal strengh and the tower, i am in Joburg and mostly will use it in it , so what you think the tower signal will be in these places.

Its impossible to generalise really, take a look at the coverage map.

agreed, good 3G signal = perfect call quality. I cannot tell the difference, in fact sometimes GSM calls are dodgy, echo, 'feedback' etc, I've never had that on a 3G call.

GPRS - don't waste your time ;)
