Virgin 3G on Vodacom!??

Ok, I found the max I get is exactly 512kbps while on the same tower on Vodacom I get 1.3Mbps.

interesting, do you think virgin might be launching 512kbps on vodacom network soon?

Well Virgin traffic is routed differently, maybe their network is slower generally once it leaves the Voda tower?

I doubt it. It's probably the Cell C link leading from the tower that is only 512k wide. Don't know why we get access but it appears to be accidental. When they finally launch it will probably be full speed with 2Mbps links.

Do you think its got to do with the MNP coming in place? it might be a clinch in the system?

Don't know the exact date this all started so I won't rule it out. Initially I had to take some steps to connect but now it seems their system thinks I'm a permanent Vodacom user. Hehe.

I had so much problems with virgin gprs but seems all it is gone i only change my network settings to vodacom 3g and im getting 3G speed with my virgin sim.Loving the speed.

I've tried numerous times to get back on Voda's 3G, my 6680 just won't connect. :(

Mine neither. It takes to long to switch to gprs once disconnected from grps and then it switches back to gprs for no reason.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering if this was still happening? My in laws just bought an N70 via CellC and it was roaming on the Vodacom network, but only once in a while showing 3G coverage.

We had a Vodafone branded N70 sitting next to it with a VC sim and it showed a 3G connection. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to swop sim cards between the two phones.

Does VC have something in the firmware that encourages the phone to lock onto the 3G tower more readily? I have a Nokia 6111 and can see that it bounces between Vodacom towers a lot with only a few towers showing 3G enabled (based purely on name!) but more often than not it stays there for a moment before choosing a different tower.

Any thoughts?

More to the point, is it (still) possible to run a 3G phone (with 3G) on CellC / Virgin?

Hi saintm,

This i have experienced personally and was a bit confused at first, this is how it works: If you use any handset whether 3G or not on Voda, you will get information from the tower that you log onto. This basically means that if you log onto a Vodacom 3G tower, you will get notification that you have the capabilities to use 3G if your handset is compatible as you move around. Unfortunately Vodacom does not allow you use 3G services when you roam on their network. Hope this helps,

Just a quick question though. I wasn't just getting the 3G enabled string but actually a 3G/HSDPA connection. Ok, it wasn't as fast as HSDPA but it was faster than 3G or even edge. I guess this might have been something that they were working on "fixing" when you posted this but there were definitely HSDPA access when all official reports denied this, any care to explain this?

hahaha

Its all one big happy cell phone company family :-) they all run on the same network basis so it should work :-) My cellc works perfect on vodacom settins and visa versa.

The other day cellc was down and we selected vodacom as network - works like a charm.
