Virgin 3G on Vodacom!??

What's your setup exactly plse? 128K sim?

I'm using the following setup:

1) a 128K VM simcard
2) in a Hawuei VC datacard
3) MTN F@stlink desktop
4) "vdata" as APN

What I have found is to clear the modem string in the control panel completely!! Before I also had the "vdata" apn in the modem initialization string in the control panel, but then I could only get GPRS speed. I then delete it completely from the modem initialization string and only use "vdata" in the F@stlink desktop(I know it sound strange, but this is as I got it at the moment!!!!).

On the top of the F@stlink dektop it says "3G/HSDPA" Vodacom. It also shows 4 bar reception.

Regards

PS. Another thing is that I also don't get billed strangely enough. I have used almost 80MB of data and charged about 4c.:D :D :D

I cannot Connect via 3G anymore...

actually I only connected once but never again

I think if your connected to Vodacom's 3G its probably just luck?

Edit: Tried jalize's technique, no luck

Last night I still had 3G but this morning it seems I got thrown off the 3G network. Pity, but it was nice while it lasted :)

Everyone knows there are vodacom reps on this site. So Thats what happens when a few people talk to much....everyone knows about it and everyone suffers when it gets the chop. just like the free internet method on vodaphone live. when will people learn. I dont use this as im happy with my 4mb adsl, but i feel sorry for those people who were using this method to access the net who had no other means. :(

anyways, have a great day guys. just putting my 2cents worth in.

LOL. Wakeup man, youre saying exactly what I was saying! :) Free internet is great, but if we all blab about it too much on here someone is gonna find out something and its gonna end. So keep it on the downlow. My best friend is using it and he loves, Im not knocking it, if you read my post properly. Just saying KEEP IT FREE by not advertising it too much. Am I wrong here? You are taking me way out of context man, cause I wasnt trying to be mean or insulting. Just trying to get you guys to protect it while it still lasts. So dont worry Champ, you dont need to be upset with me. lol :D

Live long and prosper.

I read about that on the Prodigits forum. It seems to be true. It seems likely that there is some connection with the free VM WAP.

PS: Could everyone do all of us a favour and stop posting about free WAP, please? If a representative sees your post, it could spoil free WAP for all of us. Thanks. ;)

Do you think Vodacom could make a mistake like that? I'm thinking more along the lines of "Hey it's Christmas, let's enjoy ourselves with this nice gift from old scrooge!"

just a quick question, for this f r e e internet on V M, do u have to roam cell c's network or vodacom's, or doesnt it make any difference?

no difference, still free...

I'm on Virgin/Cellc (Edge is as good as Vodacom's 3G for me) downloaded 1GB so far (since it's been free)and only cost me about 80 bucks!(I get charged about 20c-R20 sometimes when I connect then the free net kicks in... most times it's free!) :D

Anyone else using Vodacom's hsdpa?

At my house, the reception on my mobile always says "Vodacom Virgin". But when i venture a few kms down the road it resorts to just "virgin'.

Now i currently use gprs at home on virgin. I'm getting a 3g/hsdpa phone very soon. I'm heavily reliant on my mobile for data.

Does having this dual V&V reception offer any benefits?
Only if you have Vodacom edge reception and no Cell C edge reception. Otherwise you are likely to get slower speed on Vodacom

Thats not true, Vodacom knew about the free net and only came to realise the extent after the fact. I'm sure Vodacom would know if someone connected to their 3G network by simply checking the logs.

It's only the Cell C wap that's free by default. You pay as soon as you use the internet. So I don't think it's related at all.

Kewl!!:D

I've read about this before but could never get it to work. Now surfing via hsdpa on virgin. In Midrand - hope others are benefiting.
