Curious to find out what other people do for gym membership, other than Discovery Vitality?

Considering the premium (all club access) is around R700 with a twelve month contract.

This is specific to Virgin Active, with multiple gym's. Wouldn't set foot in Planet Fitness again.

Why is Vitality not an option? For both me and the wife, including Vitality, it's less than R500 a month.

And next year its R750, including the Vitality fee.

Vitality has become a pain in the arse to maintain... and I've been thinking of moving my life insurance for some time. I probably won't be Gold next year, which also affects my Life premiums and benefits.

I got this in the mail: From 1 January 2015 an annual increase to your membership fee will come into effect and your new monthly instalment will be R139.00.

So that's R278.00 for both me and the wife. So, unless Vitality is going up to almost R500, I think you are mistaken.

had anyone had experience with the virgin active red gyms? The site mentions a R199 membership and they look quite nice

Virgin Active is like Hotel California: you can check out but you can never leave....

I still don't pay anything for my Gym membership with Virgin and Vitality. Have been a member since the good old days from when you only payed the once off startup fee and it was free thereafter. I have been consistently for many a year now

That's amazing whish I hoped on that train.

I'm nit a loyal gym fanatic.
This month I am with planet fitnes (R199 for 30 days groupon). Will see when jan comes where i'm off to again

I'm on exactly the same thing, you pay for premier access, and you pay for vitality. If I went to one gym I wouldn't pay anything except Vitality... but I frequent three gyms.

(besides - this isn't just about gym membership, I don't want to have to jump through hoops to keep my life benefits in check)

I'm at Family Fitness and it was R850 odd once off and I think R89 thereafter which is fair, prior to that I worked out at a private gym which was R99/month. I couldn't care less where I go to gym as long as it's not Virgin active. Standing waiting for equipment pi**ed me off to such an extent I swore I'd never go to one of their gyms again, I only have +-70 minutes to work out daily so waiting for equipment while two skinny little pretty boys stand having a chat about their weekend while holding everyone else up is not an option.

Sign a month-to-month contract first...if you do manage to go consistently for a couple of months then switch to year/two year.

I ended up not going regularly...worst purchase decision ever....

600 for club membership, momentum multiply

Doesn't sound like a benefit.

I've go consistently, have for years - I've gone over 200x this year. In fact, going in 20min :p

In that case go for it.

At that scale I'd be tempted to go looking for a more quiet non-franchise gym though. VA is great sure - but I'd be surprised if one can't find better with a bit of searching.
