I think it's the stupidest thing they could have done to make a uproar, all it does is give virgin more publicity. As the saying goes there's no such thing as bad publicity
 
True, like the guy who claimed he had slept with one of the girls in the Virgin ads! Yeah right, there are millions of dollars at stake, they are not going to risk using people who aren't real virgins!!!

wow, such a lot of animosity.... i'll admit that it's a clever ad, but i'll by lying if i say that i wasn't slightly offended by it too. i feel these guys have a right to stand up for what (and Who) they believe, just like everyone here, not so? but to each his own, i guess... ;)

You could be very easily shot down right now with that statement...
 
I don't think it's plausible to say there's no place for religion in the world at all. Religion provides comfort and hope for billions of people. That makes it worthwhile. As Klips has pointed out, it's only when religion is taken to the extreme as in this example that it seems to be negative.

Yep, the only little problem is that my little group has the only Truth and hotline directly too God, regardless all the love thy neighbour stuff others have too be converted too see the "light". Basicly every religion has this feature built in too produce extremists, it really doesn't matter how small this group is they are ultimately very destructive.

Also does anyone have Virgin Mobiles PR department or relevant departments email or contact, we should also start boycotting them for caving too extreme minorities rather than make money and delivering a good service.

err hmmm. Extreame religion huh?

Wasn't it moderate religion that got SA where it is today. Wasn't it "The Church" that sucked up to Hitler and Moussolini. Wasn't it religion that kept mankind in fear of 'hell" during the middle ages. Wasn't it emporeror worship that made Japan go to war and have suicide bombers (kamikazi's). Maybe its just my own experiances as a young person in SA in the 70's & 80's that left a bad taste in my mouth and why when religious nut jobs try to suck the life out of democracy and free will that makes me a little picky.

By all means have religion if you feel you need hope. Personally I just prefer to get myself out of my own mess and don't wait for so called miracles. I also appreciate the ability to think and decide for myself without some dominee dictating what I can and can't do. That advert didn't break the law and anywhere else in democratic soceities wouldn't even have elicited a response, excpt here wehre we have some red neck zealots who still believe they have power over the masses. Well its over, so get used to it.
 
Realise this is OT - but the deeper psychology of the ad is interesting: the theme of death and the afterlife!? (why?) - the use of the mythic Blingola (why?) - the use of Lenny Henry instead of a local actor (why?) - why, out of all the subjects in the world chose religion? The babes? The ostentatious wealth? (What view does Richard Branson have of the country?) (Surely he would have approved the campaign?)
