I see some people say Vodacom Prepaid customers doesn't have GPRS access etc. Might this be because I have <10% uptime on Virgin? Or do they treat all customers the same? They have been down for most of yesterday and today, AGAIN !

ABSA & Gmail: I am using my Sony Ericsson W520i mobile as a modem for my laptop and the phone itself to check email and do banking but I can not access secure pages. Virgin referred it to Cell C and I must wait for a reply (5 days already) Does any one else have the same problem? When I use the phone as a modem though i can go wherever i want to.

What does Vodacom's Prepaid GPRS users have to do with VM's uptime or whatever?

By the way, where in This small world of ours have you heard people say that Vodacom Prepaid customers does not have GRPS access etc? That’s...well...a Lie.
I’m with Vodacom.
I’m a prepaid customer,
and I use GPRS. Am I like the only one or something?

VM does not have a <10% uptime. Unless a large portion of the time you’re online just happens to fall in this Offline time.

I have no problems accessing secure https ssl sites. My gmail loads fine...
But I don’t have ABSA internet banking.

I agree with ld13. What is jamesbond on about?

IN your browser (I use opera) enable the https proxy as well (same as http proxy)

Well Vodacom definitely offers GPRS for prepaid customers, all the networks do actually, so not sure what you're on about. VM's pretty unreliable but its not THAT bad!

As I've said many times before, I honestly don't think VM GPRS is less stable than Vodacom's VLive! in my area.

Many people use their "reliable Vodacom backup SIM" when the VM network is down, but it only seems reliable because it happens to be online when the VM network is down.

Meanwhile, the VM network will also appear reliable to those people using Vodacom with a backup VM SIM, since the VM network will also usually be online when the Vodacom network is down.

All of this is due to the simple, logical fact that it is highly improbable that both data networks will be offline simultaneously.

i again had some problem logging onto vm network last nite, used my VC sim and connected no problem, but 10min later was back on VM sim

i can connect to ABSA and gmail via PC modem and VM sim.

the pages are quite big because of SSL, might just be timing out. which browser are you using.

I can access Gmail without a problem using my VM SIM in an i-mate JAM as a modem on my PC, using Opera Browser. It takes a while to load the first time, but after that it's fine.

VM via pc fine (sometimes free when 0 balance) gmail fine/opera fine/gprs fine.

no probs for me.
