Personally I think a single pricing model is great, just a little worried that they're quite expensive in later hours at R1.55 if I make a late night call.

If they have a contract that's simply a bill related to usage with no free minutes or other crud like that, then I *WILL* save plenty even at R1.55 minimum rate with the first 5 at 2.35!

just have to follow the SA trend of multiple providers for multiple needs.
I already have
1 ISDSL for local
1 SAIX DSL for international
1 Telkom line for local calls
1 Cell phone for cell calls
1 Cell phone for weekend minutes
1 Skype phone for long distance / international calls
now, I just need one VM phone for data calls.....

Anyone selling a cheap multiplug? :D

Just like I thought - no reason for MNP to drag on since last year. This "stalling" is a tried and tested method used by South African companies to delay competition. We need to get the Competition Commission involved if MNP is not active within 1 month.

These companies are subject to fines though. Some IMMENSE number like 50k rand or so. [end sarc]
 
Sounds very good. Surprsing to note that Vodacom didn't react to MTN's 'reductions'... Wonder how they will react to this?
I personally think they will bring out a no-cellphone contract for six months, with airtime discounted by like 5 -10%..

Well, I went to my local Nashua cellphone shop and they do not have them yet. Or Pricing. Or any more information than "was in the newspapers" - quote.
 
MNP is coming, and the schedule is brutal, all sp's are doing their best to rollout MNP. if ure part of the process, then ull understand. its no small task as franna thinks it is. the amount of tests and loopholes possible makes it a massive time critical task.

Virgin are really offering not much new and the pricing has been worked on nicely so no deals are really given. Its a slightly reworked offering that all the other phone providors give and youll have to do your maths carefully to see if you can save any money with the packages they are offering. Rather sit tight and be clever consumers. Dont touch the VIrgin offering and see if they drop the prices more.
If we consumers were smart we could break any of the offerings but just not using them lfor a while. Let virgin rot till they come to the party and offer some meaningful reductions.

Eh? Like the incumbents have? How about everyone goes to virgin and lets see if they come to the party. Already Virgin is offering me so much more that Vodacom ever has.

Off to track down a starter pack. :)
 
got my VM sim from musica.R89.95 with preloaded R50 airtime but the thingy is still not activated!called them twice already.they did take a copy of my ID ut took all details on the phone again and say there is a problem and line will activate in upto 24hours

It would be smart for them to try and do it now. Beats the rush, you are already there anyway, saves you a trip later, saves them the headache later. Makes sense.

put it this way, if it doesnt start up on that day, then every SP that doesnt support it will face crazy fines, thats only if ICASA doesnt delay again and puts their foot down. but there is no point in initiating a system that hasnt been properly tested, cos then ppl are gonna have problems, then who or what are they gonna blame.

lets just wait for that crdb test server
