Virgin Mobile - excellent speed and stability

Please can we close this thread since the topic is purely fictional.
 
Good point. I say below average speed and below average reliability.
@skyash - If it's only 50% thats not reliable.
 
Well that's a matter of opinion. Besides the other networks are not 100% reliable 100% of the time. If you want to pay more for slightly better speed and reliability there are 3 other networks ready to milk you :D

That's not true. I get excellent speeds most of the time and VM is not less reliable than Vlive! was before I switched networks.

I'll admit local bandwidth is sometimes very slow on VM, but I use an international proxy (operated by Google) as a workaround. Try these

72.14.192.7

72.14.192.11

72.14.192.14

All port 80 and HTTP only.

There are only two other networks. The other one will milk you without giving you anything better.

I have come to the conclusion that mobile data as a concept is unreliable. If you want reliability go and get iBurst or adsl, but from what I heard it is only 99% reliable also and most of the time you don't get half of what is advertised.
 
Virgin wont work ! WHY ???

Guys & Dolls ,

I am using a Huawei E620 Fastlink HSDPA Data card.

I have tried a MTN , Vodacom and Cell-c sim in there and they all work well.

However when I tried a Virginmobile Sim it says Connection failed.

I have used the *99***# and Vdata as the setting yet for the other 3 sims I used no settings at all.

Concerned that Virgin does not have a dial up support even during the day.

Help !
 
Virgin Mobile has officially stated that their SIM cards do NOT work in data cards, although some users claim that they do (especially the 128K SIMs).

Try using no initialization string and the dial string *99#.
 
Correction: Virgin has stated that the first batch of 64k sims might not work in some data cards, but that the 128k sims should work in any data card.

DXL: If you have a 64k sim pm Piesang your details and they will exchange it for a 128k sim card.

Sorry, my mistake. Someone at the VM Sort Me Out Centre told me that VM SIMs don't work in data cards. That was before they had 128k SIMs though, but it's still a stupid thing to say and it's almost equally stupid of me to believe it.

I see they are selling data cards now.
 
Or that's what I've heard, at least - not from an official VM source. Can anyone confirm or deny that VM is selling data cards?
 
Yes they are selling Data cards- I bought one three months ago from the eastgate store- I had some problems in the begining with the 64k sim- but since I was upgraded to 128k - I am ok. I had problems for three weeks logging on - but it has improved since last week. I suits me fine as I am not locked into any contract- it is pay as you go
 
Well, using *99# as the dial string.
Sometimes a packet setting needs to be enabled for applications like Opera mini etc..

VM rocks!!

Can u give me some price ranges please?
At the moment iam using my fone as a modem and would rather just plug in a dedicated device for my internet such as a data card.
Do they have something like USB modem like CellC has? :D

I think it's suppose to be here, but as usual it's not working for me. :rolleyes: Can't people just design normal web pages without all the bells and whistles. :mad:

I would rather get this and be ready for the future.

Didn't work for me with Opera 9, IE 7 or Firefox. Maybe it's connection related. I'm using my VM GPRS. Could it be that you can't access VM's pages using their own connections? :eek:
