Virgin Very Bad Tonight

yip, International is the Slow one...local seems ok.

Luclily i dont NEED my internet tonight for something...
 
It's working now but not as fast as we would expect when nobody is using it.
 
nope its still terrible packet losses and 1584ms average pings.its still nasty even at this ungodly hour.
 
Just want to add my voice.

Last two days are terrible for international sites. Actually, it doesn't work most of the time.

Goodness, can't VM monitor response times??
 
It's very unfortunate that the VM data service is so unreliable at the moment as it was great for a while, but it's now back to the way it was when I joined back in November.

Just to state a fact: VM would make a lot more money out of me if their data service actually worked more than 1 out of 4 times I try to use it. ;)

Fortunately I have ADSL now, but if VM GPRS were still my only connection, I would have been really annoyed right now and would probably have considered going back to Vodacom.
 
jb007za; not to labour the point, I don't personally get involved in the trouble shooting of specific technical instances, so if had had given you that impression I was technically inclined and misled I do apologise.

As for best behaviour - I like to think I am, however thank you for your feedback- it is noted.

If you wouldn't mind giving me a second chance I would like to get you through to someone in my team that perhaps knows what they are talking about when it comes to the technical issue you experience and even improve the situation.

Please could you give me your feedback on your current GPRS experience, some work was carried out on the system last night and through to this morning.

My connection seems to fine now, but was wondering what it is like in different parts?

My connection was also bad last night and I usually have an ok connection when other people can't even connect. Since last week I've been on an EDGE connection via an E220 but have only got EDGE speeds on one occasion.

It went off completely last night. No connection at all.
Today, it is better for this time of day.

But then it is swings and roundabouts with VM.

Up down, slow, slow, normal, slow, disconnect, slow, disconnect, normal. That's a typical week.

[Also nobody calls back despite promising 24 hrs or sooner. Pretty much standard for VM]
Oh .. and the flunkies on the operator desk (123) will never allow customers to speak to data helpdesk. The 123 guys haven't a clue technically and often do not know enough to report a problem. "Ummm Is GPRS the same as data?" Doh!

Switch manually to the Vodacom gprs network, then switch to 3G only mode once you are locked on to the network. If need be switch back to gprs and then again to 3G until you get a permanent 3G connection. :)

Thanks for the tip :D According to the Huawei software I'm on HSDPA but speed tests show me in GPRS to EDGE region but overall much better performance than Virgin's network :D

You'll find you're still on the Cell C network and only using the Vodacom tower. The maximum speed you'll probably get is 512k/s like me.

I tried to do a speedtest at 17h50 and waited for 18 minutes and then got
disconnected. I am on my MTN sim now to do this post.
 
It was useless last night. International pings all timed out. Local sites took ages to open. Luckily I had the laptop from work with the Vodacom data card to do my important stuff.
