Why even bother...? They may as well just have a check box to tick - "Select to remember loved one this year (flowers, incense, prayer included)."
And another one - Click here to have this repeat each year in perpetuity.

This sets a "Remember loved one" flag in the database to TRUE.

How is this any different from birthday e-cards, facebook birthday wishes and other human interaction that we use the internet for? The whole point of visiting a graveyard is so that you can remember the loved one. What difference does it make that the 'graveyard' is virtual?

A close friend of mine passed a few years ago and a memorial website was set up and people from all over the world can visit and post rememberance messages on the board. Nothing wrong with it.

That's great when it's in ADDITION to and not INSTEAD of a traditional remembrance ceremony, if you practice such a thing. When it's instead of - well makes no sense for me. Even better if they could automate it then (and post random text or poetry).

I don't know about Buddhists and Taoists, but in many religions - many branches of Christianity and even Shinto loved ones return to the graveside in latter years. I don't know what Buddhists do but if they're also like that well then this is quite silly IMO if it replaces the actual return visit otherwise why bother.
