Interesting types of questions they ask at these visits

Like "hows your pee stream?"

How in heaven am I supposed to know? As compared to the 2 guys on either side of me at the urinal? After 10 beers? As compared to 20 years ago?

Why don't they just come and watch you. BTW there are 2 women in the profession, anyone know if its worth using them :):)

It's quite a simple question.

If you are a man and the pee stream sprinkles then you have problem.
If it burns, you have a problem
If it doesn't have the colour of a wheat stalk, you have a problem.
If it sputters, you have a problem.
If it is the colour of water, drink less beer.

Many medical problems can be accurately picked up by by this simple bodily function.

There's an old Afrikaans saying: Hou you roeper en jou poeper oop, en laat die dokter na sy moer toe loop.

This means eat well and make sure your bodily functions do well, then you'll be healthy to the extent that it is under your own control.

Based on my knowledge (so yes it is open for correction) I beg to differ with the two in bold above.

The colour of your pee is an indication of how dehydrated your body is. Dark yellow pee and you are dehydrated. Clear pee and you are well hydrated..... so clear is good, dark is bad.

you have to drink an extraordinarily amount of water for your urine to be clear like water.

I've heard many doctors say (believe me, I've been an in-patient of a hospital many times), if your urine is the colour of a wheat stalk, you're fine.

Remember a wheat stalk is slightly golden. Not yellowish or brown.

* Clear- indicates over-hydration, which is usually considered much healthier than dehydration. In the context of a drug test, it could indicate a potential attempt to avoid detection of illicit drugs in the bloodstream through over-hydration[1].
* Yellowing/light Orange may be caused by removal of excess B vitamins from the bloodstream.
* Certain medications such as rifampin and pyridium can cause orange urine.
* Bloody urine is termed hematuria, potentially a sign of a bladder infection.
* Consumption of beets can cause urine to have a pinkish tint; the condition is harmless and temporary.
* Dark orange to brown urine can be a symptom of jaundice, rhabdomyolysis, or Gilbert's syndrome.
* Black or dark-colored urine is referred to as melanuria and may be caused by a melanoma.
* Reddish or brown urine may be caused by porphyria. Again, the consumption of beets can cause the urine to have a harmless, temporary pink or reddish tint.
* Greenish color is usually a consequence of consuming asparagus.
* Fluorescent Yellow / Greenish urine may be caused by dietary supplemental vitamins, especially the B vitamins.
* Dark yellow urine is usually indicative of dehydration.

From wiki .......

Well I now checked and I was right but it appears so where you with the wheat stalk description....

The good news was that nearly three-quarters of responders were reporting normal, light coloured urine (numbers 1-3). As urine colour is mostly dictated by hydration levels, this indicates a good level of fluid intake amongst those people.

Darker urine can be caused by certain foodstuffs, but it is probably dehydration that is to blame. If your urine is always dark, even after heavy fluid consumption, get this checked out by your GP as it can be a symptom of other illnesses.

I have on occasion had clear urine and it is usually after some strenuous exercise (eg triathlon) in which I have consumed large amounts of water in a short period of time. If your urine is clear for a prolonged period of time then it may be an indication of diabetes etc.

Light yellow is normal. So yeah I suppose you could call that "wheat stalk" but that description seems a bit vague as I would visualise a wheat stalk to be a darker yellow and dark yellow does indicate dehydration.

I have an appointment scheduled soon, what should I take note of, so as to make the process of answering his questions easier and more definitive?

I usually blank out with doctors...

"So how are you sleeping?"
"Um...I dont know?..."

Do you wake up often? Once or twice.

Do other people complain of snoring. How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? Tired? Stiff as a board? Does your back ache? Do you feel tired/sleepy during the day? Do you fall asleep easily?

Ok thanks, although the sleeping question was a placeholder for a more personal question. You know...a personal man question. But I get your point. :)

Uhm, Okay. I haven't been asked that question.

And I wouldn't know how to answer that question since ...uhm ...

That is some freaky occurrence, i've had bioplus do this(after 2 effervescent). Its kinda funny, weird and yet wickedly awesome :p

Do you completely empty your bladder every time, do you dribble, do you have to go to the bog at night, any pain in the nuts? If you are past your 30's have him check your prostate. Any pain while having a swazz? strange smells from your urine?

Good luck, I hope your urologist is not as bad as the one I went to initially.
