hey

Thinking of using vista 64 on my new pc, ive heard alot about drivers not working etc. if you use 64 plz share your opinion if u dont then read and learn :)

I used Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on my computer, had drivers for everything except my sound card. Didn't see any speed increase over x86 though...

vista 64 bit is awesome man

much faster than 32 bit version i first bought

gaming wise 64 bit gives 32 bit carrots :)

there is nothing i have that i could not find drivers for even my old creative sound card had drivers

albeit they only worked at the 3rd set of drivers that came out :)

64 all the way baby!!!!!!!!!!

That drivers thing is load of bat guano. The hardware manufacturers were initially slow to develop 64 bit drivers but it's almost all sorted now.

If only they could sort out the FPS drops... :p

But I'm digressing, never mind me :D

yea, i remember the days of xp 64 bit omw you still dont get drivers for 80% of the stuff on that OS

lol beanie :) yea man it sucks your fps drop so much but like i said xp is not so bad, its just now vista thats all :)

No dude, FPS drops is a problem specific to you. Which game was it? What drivers were you using? What processes were running? You can't come and say Vista is bad just because you experienced some FPS drops, did you try to find out what exactly was causing it or did you just assume it was the OS?

I know, I have Windows Vista Ultimate x86 installed on two computers at home. No need to tell me about Vista vs XP, I have a daily comparison ;)

I'm not the only one who has experienced it, I know of 3 people who have experienced it as well. Every single game, every possible driver from latest to the first one made for Windows Vista for every series of graphics cards from the 5-series to the 8-series, no processes in the background.

I've tried it on at least 12 different hardware configurations and my results were similar every time. Still want to tell me it's specific to me and that I haven't done enough to try to pinpoint the problem? :p

Every possible driver for every possible piece of hardware. Would you guys mind telling me what I'm doing wrong, then? :p

*cue feo* :D

Well you are by no means in the majority, Vista runs great for games for most people. I don't have Vista so I can't speak from experience but you are probably part of the small group of people that have actually been impacted negatively by Vista gaming wise.

you have all your windows updates?
all your drivers are up to date?

then i dunno i will put it down to 32 bit because thats the reason i changed to 64, i was getting choppy performance in games tried every driver but gave up and thought just before i give up on vista lemme try 64 bit

since going 64 bit everything runs smoothly :), although a friend of mine told me they fixed the vista 32 gaming issue

Then your first statement about the FPS drops wasn't accurate ;) Can't blame the hardware :p

Windows completely up to date, as I said the drivers have varied between latest and first (everything in between). It also occurred using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 :)

no then your doing something wrong :)

cause since i went 64 ultimate all my gaming issues are now gone

damn u must have spend a fortune on your ms software

2 x vista plus 64 ultimate eina

beanie you should lend my cd for vista to test it out man 64 bit anyhow :)

then we know for sure

yes its not a legit copy but i did buy vista business 64 bit so i think im entitled to this considering i dumped my 1.3k vista :) for the 64 bit version

I have 3 32-bit and 64-bit retail licenses so even if it was one's fault I'd find that out pretty quickly...

no then your doing something wrong :)

Please, enlighten me :D

OK you can't blame the hardware (you have an awesome rig BTW) but that doesn't automatically mean the OS is at fault (maybe all the people out there blissfully gaming on Vista64 are wrong then)

Ummm, I think we should stop right here, the OP asked about driver support so we should just stick to that topic.

Thanks mate :)

Well, if the hardware and the drivers aren't to blame then only one possibility remains... But agreed, this is a discussion for a different thread :)

Back to topic, I'm not sure whether Creative have sorted out their audio driver issues for Vista 64 but yeah, that's pretty much the only major problem with drivers I've heard of. Rest is fine so you can jump on the 64bit bandwagon no problems.

well im running Vista 64.. Firstly managed to get drivers for every component.. and this is a laptop... Initially things did seem abit slower and i was cursing quite abit bt after abt a week and doing all the updates that come out (there are tons).. my laptop runs like a dream.. i can run crysis med/high 1680*1050 smoothly no AA tho bt yah.. so dnt see much problem with vista 64 and it sees all 4GB of my RAM :P
